The Canton Lions started the 2007 football season with a strong performance against the Belleville Cougars. 

The Freshmen Football team opened in successful fashion with an impressive 18-0 victory over the Belleville Cougars. Fullback Chuckie Turfe opened the game with an 18 yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Quarterback Antonio Dumas also had a strong day running the ball for the victors with touchdown runs of 1 and 42 yards. The Lions defense was led by Jake Stropes and Forrest Hall who recovered fumbles and by Dante Pruitt and Daniel Kilgore who led the team in tackles preserving the shut out.

The JV then followed it up with a 41-7 win.  The following Lions scored touchdowns behind strong blocking from the offensive line; Malcolm Hollingsworth, Nathan Emminger, Brandon Lee, Jamarl Eiland and Kyle Durham. There was also a strong team defensive showing which included outstanding performances from Luke Denzer, Danny Stropes, and Lucas Bunting.

The night was capped off with a 41-12 victory by the varsity. The Lions got touchdowns from Kevin Buford, Marcus Houston, and Blake Owens. Clay Behrman, Paul Baumgart, and Eric Jipping let the blocking. Defensively, the Lions were led by Matt Harris, who made several solo tackles. The Lions also received stellar performances on both sides of the ball from first year players Ian Green, Nick Weber, and Austin Banfield.

The Canton Lions Junior Freshmen had a successful scrimmage this Saturday at Heritage Park.  The Lions battled the Farmington Rockets and the Garden City Cougars. The next Junior Freshmen event will be at the Lakes Area Hawks.

2007 Season to Kick Off August 6th!

The excitement is building as we quickly approach the start of the 2007 Football & Cheerleading season!  All participants will need to be prompt and at our practice facility at Heritage Park prior to the 6 pm start time.  Please be sure to bring plenty of water and dress for the weather.  Be prepared to work hard for the first week of conditioning!image

SALEM FOOTBALL CAMP COMING SOON!

Salem High School will have a youth football camp from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, July 14th. The camp will start promptly at 9am on the grass field behind Salem High. The camp is open to all 7 -13 year old Canton/Plymouth residents.  This camp will be staffed by the Salem football coaches along with Canton Lions, Plymouth/Canton Steelers and OLGC coaches.  The cost for this camp is only $10 and will include lunch and a T shirt!  Enrollment information is included in the attached handout. All Canton Lions football players are strongly encouraged to participate in this excellent camp.  Get a head start on your competition by attending this skills camp!  You can also register the day of the clinic behind Salem High School.  Walk up registration will start at 8 am. The Nike truck will also be at the camp for your football equipment needs.
