Bramwell Delivers When Called

Posted by Mark Hyland at Dec 16, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Bucks County Courier Times by Tom Waring As a sophomore, Bill Bramwell pinned his opponent as Pennsbury topped Neshaminy in the match that decided the Suburban One League Patriot Division wrestling championship. A sign of big things to come as a junior, right? Wrong. Pennsbury was loaded with talent last season. Bob Speer, Pat Frain and Joe Bergen owned the lineup spots at 171, 189 and 215 pounds, and there was no room for a talented wrestler like Bramwell. "I just had to sit back and wait my turn," Bramwell said. Bramwell spent his junior season on Pennsbury's JV wrestling team. He made the most of it, going 16-2. Speer and Frain have graduated, and Bramwell has filled the 189-pound spot and filled it ably. He's 8-1 so far. "He paid his dues, wrestled JV and some of those dividends are paying off," coach Joe Kiefer said. Last weekend, Bramwell went 6-1 at 189 pounds at the Central Mountain Tournament. Pennsbury won the dual meet tournament by winning all seven of its matches. The Falcons have won three consecutive SOL Patriot crowns and, despite heavy graduation losses, can win their fourth in a row, in Bramwell's opinion. "We lost a lot of guys, but we have a lot of guys stepping up," he said. In terms of varsity action, Bramwell went 8-5 as a sophomore and 0-1 as a junior. His claim to fame remains that big pin against Neshaminy two years ago. "That was definitely the highlight. Neshaminy and Pennsbury are such rivals," he said. This season, Bramwell hopes to add to his highlight reel. An 18-year-old from Fairless Hills, he doesn't have a specific goal. "This year, I'm going at it with everything I've got," he said. Kiefer thinks Bramwell is a certain District One North qualifier and hopes he can advance to the Class AAA Southeast Regional. "Who knows," the coach said. "If he keeps making strides, maybe we can take him to Hershey." Bramwell is studying to be a motorcycle mechanic at Bucks County Technical High School, but his future appears to lie elsewhere. On Aug. 2, 2003, he'll leave for Parris Island, S.C. to attend the United States Marine Corps' 13-week boot camp. He hopes for a career in the military.

Pennsbury Leads the Pack in Lower Bucks

Posted by Mark Hyland at Dec 5, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Trentonian Preview - Rick Fortenbaugh While neither team is quite as strong as last year, it’s the same pecking order when it comes to the elite of Lower Bucks County wrestling. At the head of the class is Pennsbury, which is coming off arguably its greatest season in history and remains one of the most formidable teams in the Delaware Valley. Next in line and in hot pursuit is Neshaminy, which has some talented youngsters to compliment a nice returning cast. PENNSBURY Coach: Joe Kiefer. Last year: (27-1), Suburban One National Patriot and District 1 Dual Match champion. Sectional and district team champion. No. 2 ranking in the area. Lineup: 103-Lee Milas (Jr.); 112-Matt Sbarro (Fr.); 119-Kyle Palucis (Sr.); 125-Pat McDonald (Jr.); 130-Matt Cutchineal (Fr.); 135-Ben Rees (Jr.); 140-Bill Trimble (Jr.); 145-Joe Dawicki (Jr.); 152-Joe Bulger (Jr.); 160-Chris Ryan (Sr.); 171-Corey Howard (Sr.); 189-Bill Bramwell (Sr.); 215-Joe Bergen (Sr.); Hvy-Tyrus O’Neill (Sr.). Strengths: Where do you start? Bergen was 37-10 last year and advanced to states along with Trimble. Milas picked up 33 wins a year ago, O’Neill won a bunch of matches and Ryan is another proven gun. Palucis was 6-1 before getting hurt. Howard had trouble finding a spot last year, but is proven. There’s lots of very promising newcomers, including Sbarrao, Cutchineal, Dawicki and Bulger. No program in Lower Bucks can match this team’s depth. Outlook: The Falcons will be hard pressed to match last year’s banner campaign, but can come close. Pennsbury enters the season as the Patriot Division favorite, but will have its hands full with teams like Pennridge and Upper Perkiomen when it comes to capturing a third straight District 1 Dual Match title. Either way, it shapes up as another very big year for this traditional powerhouse.
