2001 - Rookieball Selects

Posted by Mark Russell at Jun 23, 2002 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
2001: Where it all started for the Red Sox! In 2001 the team of boys (and girls)were junior Rookieballers, for the most part, and played against Senior Rookieball teams through the year. The team faced off against some stiff competition but came away with some hardware in Agincourt and Newmarket tournaments before moving on to the semi-final round at the SOBA provincials in Hamilton. The team played great in Hamilton - eliminating Richmond Hill before being knocked out by Waterdown. The next year Graham, Cole, Adam R, Dane and Christian moved on to the Barrie Red Sox Rookieball Rep team, joining Kory and Colin who played on the rep team as under age players.

Garner's Sports Red Sox went 2 - 2 at the 2002 Mississauga Tournament bowing out in the tournament semi-final. The two losses were by a total of three runs. Both losses could have gone the other way and the team could just as easily have been 4-0 and been playing in the final. The Red Sox continued to show improvement and it is clear that the Barrie bats will be a force to be reckoned with in future games. Here are the results:

Barrie reaches the championship in Vaughan

The boys battle hard and at times the elements but come up just short of capturing their first tournament for 2002. Making it to the finals and battling a snow storm on the way the boys lost in the end to a strong team from Mississauga.
