April 21, 2007 the Fangs played in their first POWHA playoffs.

They made the trip to Pittsburgh, PA with only 9 players, 1 goalie, 1 coach, and 3 fans (injured players and one playing up).

Game 1 - Fangs vs. Puffins 1-7
The first game was early morning against the Pittsburgh Puffins. The Fangs scored at 4:34 in the 1st. This was Merri Meadows first goal (of the season) with an assist from Julie Goode. The Puffins tied the game up at 1:10 left in the 1st. Heather Gochoel was called for tripping and sat for 2 minutes. The Puffins were able to use the man advantage and scored to make the game 1-2. Shortly after Audrey Choh was called for a questionable penalty that resulted in a penalty shot. The referee blew the play dead because he lost sight of the puck and then said Choh was laying on the puck. The Puffins scored on the penalty shot making the game 1-3. In the 3rd period Julie Goode was involved in a very intense confrontation and received a matching unsportsmanlike penalty. The Fangs tried their best but would not be able to score another goal. Pickett faced 37 shots. The Fangs placed 6th in the Lower Division. The Fangs weren't done yet though, they still had a consolation game to play that evening.

Consolation Game - Fangs vs. Bandits 2-7
The Fangs came out rested and ready to go again. They did not let the fact that the Columbus Bandits bench had a full roster bother them. They were ready to play and that showed when Julia Beebe scored the first goal of the game (her first EVER goal) with an assist from Kim LaPole at 6:14 of the 1st period. The team was fired up, but only 34 seconds later the Bandits would score. The Bandits scored three more times before Audrey Choh came into the zone and scored an unassisted goal to make the game 2-4. During a line change the Fangs were called for too many men on the ice. Gerri Kail experienced the sin bin for the first time when she served the penalty for the bench minor. Again the Fangs fought hard, but lost the game 2-7. Pickett faced 35 shots.

The Fangs enjoyed their first trip to the playoffs and will take everything they learned this season and build on it for the next year.

******The Fangs don't stop practicing or playing!!!! Even though the season is almost over and we won't have structured practices over the summer the Fangs will still be on the ice. The Fangs will participate in at least two tounaments and will be at stick-n-pucks and drop-ins. If you are interested in learning contact us and we will be more than willing to help you learn this awesome game! If you already play and would like to join the team also contact us.

Four Dayton Fangs ventured north to Troy, Ohio, to attend the Kristin King Hockey Camp at the Hobart Arena.

Tana Frangioni, Marianne Graham, Kim LaPole, and Michelle Spaven joined two players from Indianapolis to learn from Olympian Kristin King and her fellow instructors, all of who play in the NWHL.

The camp was exciting with both on and off ice training. All players got individualized instruction (even specialized goalie instruction) as well as group instruction.

The three day camp ended with a chance for the players to get a few pictures with the local hero.

The King camp was not only close to home and affordable, but provided the players a chance to see some great female hockey players and hear their stories of how they came up and the experiences they are still going through.

The camp worked on basic and intermediate level skills while really promoting the fundamentals.

Kristin King said that she looks forward to hosting the camp again next year and would love for more players to take advantage of the opportunity.

Those who attended the camp spoke very highly of King and her fellow instructors and also wished to encourage their teammates to attend this camp next year or one being held in Indianapolis soon (location/date TBA).

"King was super nice," said Graham. "She even told us about the tryouts for the USA Women's team and let us see and hold her bronze medal."

"She told Tana that she has a really hard shot. I guess the guy at Twigs and Biscuits is right!"

Each participant got a jersey and an autographed picture of King.

While a few Fangs will take advantage of the Blue Jackets camp in August, several Fangs will attend the Laura Stamm Powerskating clinic in August. Hey Fangs Campers, don't forget to tell us how the camps are and submit pictures!
