Posted by Robert La Cas at Sep 19, 2004 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
West Monroe 12 Airline 10 What a game! West Monroe totally dominated every phase of the game, but it didn't show on the scoreboard. West Monroe had 382 yards of total offense, 234 of them coming from Frank Goodin. Airline was held to 83 total yards and 10 first downs,4 by penalties. The only thing that kept Airline in the game was West Monroe. West Monroe had a interception returned for a td and another turnover gave Airline great field postion for a field goal. The Rebels held Airline on their opening series, but was able to score on a interception return for 62 yards at the 7:13 mark of the 1st quarter. On the Rebels next possesion, they got on the scoreboard on a 5 yard run by Frank Goodin. The Rebels missed the extra point making the score 7-6 with 4:30 left in the 1st quarter. The Rebels offense kept shooting themselves in the foot. Everytime they would get a scoring drive going, their would be a costly turnover. Airline's 2nd score came on a turnover by the Rebels deep in thier own territory. The DeFense held and Airline converted a 29 field goal to make it 10-6 with 1:55 left in the 2nd quarter. That was all the scoring until the 4th quarter. The Rebels finally took the lead for good on a 1 yard run with 11:55 left in the game. Brandon Banks scored from 1 yard out to make it 12-10. The extra point hit the goal post leaving a opening for Airline to kick a field goal to win the game. They got that opportunity with about 4:00 minutes left in the game, but it fell short and ended Airline's hopes of the upset. Airline played hard, but it was the Rebels who were their own worst enemy. They had 2 interceptions and 4 fumbles. The offensive line blew Airline off the ball and opened holes for Frank Goodin all night. Frank ended the night with 244 yards on 21 carries and 1 TD. The DeFense probably had the best game of the year giving up only a field goal and that coming after a turnover. Will Blackwell had 4 tackles for losses, 1 sac and 12 tackles. Shamori Clemons had 11 tackles, Kyle Townsend had 10 tackles, C.C. Carpenter had 9 tackles, 1 blocked pass, 1 sac and recovered a fumble. Matt Slocum had 8 tackles and caused a fumble. Kyle Ernst had 5 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and a sac for a 5 yard loss. Aurthur Hardy had 8 tackles, Jordan Guillot had 7 tackles and 1 for a loss, John Preston had 4 tackles, a tackle for a loss and recovered a fumble. Jameson keeton had 3 tackles, Marcus VanBuren had 2 tackles, 1 pass break up and caused a fumble. Terry Carter and Scott Love each had 1 tackle. They held Airline to 83 yards of total offense and 10 first downs. Key play of the game was Scott Love's 49 yard punt deep in our own territory. Congratulation Rebs! West Monroe 37 Shaw 13 Back from another exciting game in the Big Easy! The Rebels fall behind early, but as usual come back and dominate the game. The Rebels fell behind 13 points in the first quarter. Shaw scored first on a 5 yard run by Davis. After West Monroe drove deep in Shaw territory and could not convert, Shaw scored again on a 8 yard reception to make the score 13-0 with 5:06 remaining in the first. That was all she wrote for Shaw. The Rebels DeFense made a few ajustments and shut Shaw out the rest of the game, The Rebels got on the board with 2:35 left in the first quarter on a 25 yard field goal from Jonathan Nugent making it 13-3 at the end of one. The Rebels then closed the gap on a 9 yard run by Frank Goodin at the 7:36 mark of the 2nd quarter to make it 13-10. The Rebels scored again to go in at halftime 17-13. Nate Middleton caught a pass from Drew Thomas and raced 65 yards for a TD. That makes 3 TDs in 3 weeks for Nate. West Monroe scored one time in the 3rd quarter on a 3 yard run by Drew Thomas to put the Rebels up 24-13. Bryn Meredith got in the scoring action on a 4 yard reception in the 4th to put the Rebels up 31-13. The final score of the night came on a outstanding run by Brandon Banks. Brandon broke through the line of scrimmage and ran 25 yards for a TD to make the final 37-13. Brandon was back for the first time since being injured in the 1st quarter of the Airline game. The line did their part in the Rebels producing 440 yards of total offense. DeFense, what else can I say! You bent early, but set your jaws and shut Shaw down after the 1st quarter. Marcus VanBuren had another interception making him have 6 on the year.Marcus also had 4 punt returns for 62 yards. The Rebels also had a couple of fumble recoveries on the night. The Rebels then blocked a punt to set up a 1 yard run by Drew Thomas that started a scoring span of 20 points in 1:08. A key factor in that surge was Will Blackwell. Will tipped a pass by McDonogh #35 and raced in from 33 yards out. Then :45 later, Marcus VanBuren intecepted a pass and raced in from 25 yards out. Nate Middleton finished the scoring for the 1st half by hauling in a pas West Monroe 54 McDonogh #35 26 What a game! West Monroe fell behind 7-0 in the first quarter, but scored 2 unanswered TD's to take a 14-7 lead. West Monroe's first 2 TD's came on runs by Jason Robinson. Jason had a 33 yard run for a TD and a 1 yard run for a TD. The Rebels DeFense played a heck of a game and was the driving force in this win. The Rebels offense also had alot to do with this win. Our offensive line played with alot of composure with all of the late hits and personal fouls. Frank Goodin had 105 yards on 18 carries. Jason Robinson had 51 yards on 9 carries, while John Preston had 29 yards on 5 carries. Drew Thomas was 3 for 9 for 64 yards and a TD. A few plays later Terry Carter recovered a fumble and ran it in for a score. This gave the Rebels their first lead of the night. The Rebels had to hang on for dear life to win this one. West Monroe's Drew Thomas was about to put the Rebels up more, but fumbled the ball at the goal line. Airline recovered and the final drive began. With a little over 2:00 minutes left, Airline drove the ball to around the Rebel's 15 yard line. With 20.9 left, Airline went for one last attempt at a td. They totally shut down Airline in the 2nd half except for that last drive. Like Coach Shows said on his post game interview, he had never seen a call like the one on the field goal attempt. The official called roughing the kicker call, but then said that we hit the center before he had a chance to get his head up. Coach said in 41 years of coaching that he has never had that type of call on his team. West Monroe 56 Byrd 0 West Monroe totally dominated Byrd! He also had a 40 plus yard TD reception called back. Drew Thomas rushed for 59 yards and passed for 82. The Rebels had 356 yards rushing and 140 through the air. They gave up some yardage, but kept Parkway out of the endzone until the final minute of the game. The Rebels were able to play just about every player in uniform tonight.
