Kilroot Rec 1 v 2 Albion Star. 5 mins a throw in Kilroot, Slick takes, Puskey heads it on to Si Hamilton to take advantage of very poor defending by Star and nods it in at back post.1-0. This start looked like a continuation of last weeks performance, a goal up early on and Star slow to respond but this was only a false dawn all down hill from now on. A lot of huff and puff with no chances created. Star on the other hand brought two great saves out of Priestly, Kilroots keeper in the 18th and 24th minutes but still no immediate threat from Star. The half time whistle came as a relief to the small crowd watching. Half Time. What a shattering introduction to the second half, Kilroot lost possession in middle of park, ball kicked straight down middle, Kilroot defenders had two chances to clear, did not, Star forward gave Priestly no chance.1-1.Time 46 minutes. Worse was to follow in the 54 minute Priestly came out of his goal area to clear up the mess his defenders left on the right hand side of Kilroots box, but the speed of the Star forward took him by surprise and he felled him. Was it inside box or outside box,to Priestly relief the ref judged it to be outside. A direct free kick 18 yards out, the shot came of crossbar and onto line, did it cross the line or did it not, the referee said it did, Star in front.1-2. 65 mins and from a corner ball Kilroot had another let of when a Star header hit the bar and over.66 mins Priestly tipped a Star shot over bar, the resulting corner cleared. 67 mins Martin on for Mathers. 70 mins Green on for Puskey. 75 mins and Adams made a last ditch clearance from Star forward when clean through. 80 mins Adams replaced by Clarke. 86 mins and the only clear cut chance Kilroot created in the second half, Mitchell fouled just outside Star's box, the quick thinking of Si Hamilton in tacking it quick put Green in a goal scoring position he let rip from 10 yards, Star keeper good save. 89 mins Stew Hamilton cleared a goal bound shot of Kilroots line. A close score line but in the second half the teams were poles apart, kilroot did not offer any resistance and Star must wonder why they did not score more goals. Kilroots Team. Gorden Priestly, David Adams ( 80mins Stephen Clarke) Stewart Hamilton, Paul Mathers (65mins Colin Martin) Neil McConnell, Simon Hamilton, Robert Dummigan, Colin Adair, Darren Mitchell, Stephen McClean, Colin McElnea (70mins Stephen Green). Kilroots Goal Scorer. Simon Hamilton.

McNiece in a supermans outfit.

Posted by Gary Millar at Dec 8, 2001 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Ok 1st Bangor won 4-3 in the last Minutes of the game 89 to be precise, but it should have been over by half time but McNiece did not read the script with a display of sheer brilliance and bravery he frustrated 1st Banger time and time again and almost broke their heart's. He was ably assisted by McFly who after last weeks stinker had a different suit of armour on. The rest of team worked their socks off until the boiler's started to bust but still a few dug very deep into their reserve tanks. 4 mins McNiece the first of his stunning saves at the feet of 1st Bangor forward. 12 mins McNiece again to rescue. 13 mins McFly of line. Harper, Manderson and D Brown were all involved in a backs to wall defence, clear your lines. on 28 mins and from one of these clearances Mackers gave chase with the odds stacked against him and in uncharted territory a 1st Bangor defender got to ball first and thumped it against Mackers it ricochet in a half moon motion and to everyone’s astonishment went into 1st Bangor’s net, 1 nil to Kilroot very much against the run of play. 37 mins 1st Bangor on level terms a free kick 25 yards out headed onto Kilroots bar the rebound also headed onto bar but at the third attempt 1st Banger scored with the Kilroot defence admiring their heading ability. 1-1. 39 mins and another shook for 1st Bangor a four man move Brown, Kennedy , the cat squared the ball in for new boy Gowdy to put Kilroot in front again. 43 mins and another assault was halted by McFly as he cleared another of the line. 57 mins the result of more incessant pressure a corner ball to 1st Bangor which they equalized from.2-2. 65 mins Gowdy had a good shot saved by 1st Bangor keeper but he could not hold it and the Cat pounced to put Kilroot in front again.3-2. 70 mins Clarke on for Hammond who has struggled with his fitness of late. 75 mins and from a corner ball McNiece made a breathtaking save of the Banks / Pele quality. 80 mins and the versatile R Brown replaced the Cat who is another player who could improve on his fitness. 85 mins Graham at last came on for Gowdy who picked up an injury. The last 3 mins were sheer hell to watch for Kilroots manager John McAilister, leading 3-2 against one of the best II teams to come to Kilroot, they have also scored 18 goals and conceded only 1 in their last three fixtures, so 2 goals in the last 3 mins, both from corners was a shattering blow to the Kilroot manager and the players who do believe in fairy tales. Being realistic they were the far better side but playing well does not win games, scoring goals does.3-4. Kilroot Team. Gary McNiece, Graham McCann, Alan Manderson, Harper Calvert, David Brown, Andrew McIlwrath, Thomas Hammond, 70 mins(Steven Clarke) Jonathan Gowdy, 85mins (William Graham) Steven Kinnon, Robert Kennedy, James Phearson (Robin Brown). The scorers for Kilroot. Andrew McIlwrath. Jonathan Gowdy. James Phearson.

Kilroot hit McQuiston for eight.

Posted by Gary Millar at Dec 8, 2001 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
McQuiston Rec, Kilroots bogey team in the past. were given a roasting by the much improving Kilroot team. 5 mins and Mathers to B/A 10 yards over bar. 22 mins Dummy the provider for Mitchell who with a delightful chip from 20 yards opened the scoring for Kilroot. 0-1. 28 mins a free kick to Kilroot 30 yards out B/A took the free out to Mitchell on right wing he crossed for Dummy to score with a brave diving header. 0-2. 40 mins free kick Kilroot taken by Mitchell picked out Adair in box who headed down for B/A to slot home from 10 yards. 0-3. Half Time. 48 mins Mitchell created an opening for B/A into McQuiston box were he was upended, a penalty for Kilroot. In the absence of regular p/k taker Higgy (injured) Slick converted the spot kick. 0-4. 50 mins McQuiston had a ball charged down by the Kilroot defence, it fell invitingly for Si Hamilton all of 30 yards out. he unleashed an unstoppable shot which the McQuiston keeper did not see going into net.0-5. 55 mins and a free kick to McQuiston 25 yards from Kilroots goal, Priestly no chance from the well struck shoot.1-5. 60 mins and the introduction of Colin Martin just returned from Carrick Rangers school of excellence, he replaced Dummy. 62 mins Si Hamilton and Eecky put B/A through on goals one to one with the home keeper, he does not miss them. 1-6. 65 mins throw in Kilroot taken by Martin, Mitchell got on the end of it, home keeper saved well. From the resulting corner B/A found Adairs head and from 10 yards he firmly planted it in back of net. 1-7. 70 mins Philip Meek back into first team pannell came on for Eecky. 71 mins another free kick to Kilroot, Slick played it over top and Martin won the race for the ball with McQuiston keeper to score. 1-8. 75 mins Green replaced Si Hamilton. In the last 15 mins Kilroot should have increased the score with Mitchell, Green, Martin squandering goal scoring chances. In the last seconds of game Mathers was crudely fouled by a McQuiston player, but the Ref thought McQuiston had been punished enough and let the incident pass. Kilroot Team. Gorden Priestly, Paul Mathers, Stewart Hamilton, David Adams, Robert Dummigan, 60 mins(Colin Martin) Simon Hamilton,75 mins ( Stephen Green) Colin Adair, Darren Mitchell, Neil McConnell, Stephen Donald, Stephen McClean, 70 mins (Philip Meek) Scorers for Kilroot. First League Win At Beltoy

Posted by Gary Millar at Dec 1, 2001 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
On a cold and windy afternoon at Beltoy, Bangor Rangers the visitors. Kilroot of late seem to have the edge over the Gers and today was no different, ending with a three goal advantage. This achieved with a below par performance which fell far short of the previous two matches but unlike the last two a win was the end result today. The game swung to and fro for the first 35 mins Kilroot had chances then the Gers had chances. B/A on 4mins had a shot which keeper saved,7 mins from a corner ball Gers forward shot over bar. 15 mins Higgy set up Adair his shot saved. 25 free kick to Gers from 20 yards Priestly saved. 30 mins Kilroot two corners in succession both wasted. 35 Si cautioned by Ref for attempting to rearrange the kit of a Gers defender. 38 mins Higgy cross in for B/A as he was teeing up a shot he was fouled 22 yards out, Slick wasted the free kick over bar. 40 mins and the first real move of game,Si created an opening for B/A on right he cut inside drew keeper out and unselfishly squared ball to Eecky to tap into empty net.1-0. 41 mins and Dummy into Refs note book, the cause we are not sure. 43 mins the second goal, Puskey a timely ball over top for Si to stroll onto, keeper came of his line Si cooly lifted ball over him and the defender on line. The young man showed maturity beyond his years a chip of the old block. 2-0. Half Time. 50 mins and that boy Si Hamilton again. on a run into Gers box was upended. Higgy slotted the penalty home with his usual aplomb. 3-0. On 51 mins a counter attack from Gers had Priestly beaten but Slick cleared of line for a corner. From the corner Slick again cleared from goalmouth for another corner, from this corner Kilroot eventually cleared their lines. 55 mins Si Hamilton off, Darren Mitchell on to consolidate Kilroot's superiority. 56 mins a corner ball Kilroot, Eecky over bar with a deflected shot. 60 mins Kennedy on for Eecky, 61 mins Clarke on for Higgy who took a nasty knock on ankle, had to be helped of by the old men on line. This dramatically changed the Kilroot line up with the pace of Kennedy, and the guile of Mitchell, and the subtle touch of Clarke it was all Kilroot. Bangor Rangers wasted a great opportunity late on when forward shot wide when well placed. Kennedy missed a good chance and also birthday boy Mathers when set up by Kennedy. On closing this report i have to mention that bucket mouth (puskey) was once again picked on by Ref, unjustly if i may say so, why Refs don't do what Puskey tells them, for its always sound advice. Happy Birthday Paul Mathers on your 19 year. Kilroot Team. Gorden Priestly, David Adams, Colin McElnea, Paul Mathers, Neil McConnell, Robert Dummigan, Colin Adair, Simon Hamilton, 55mins(Darren Mitchell), Stephen McClean, 60mins (Robert Kennedy), Stephen Donald, Paul Higgins, 62mins( Stephen Clarke).
Red Star 5 v 1 Kilroot II. Kilroot II a collection of fringe players who were given the opportunity to show manager John McAilister what they were capable of on the park. The first half was pretty even 1-1 with McNiece the only player who played with distinction. The second half was an embarrassment to the players who took part and very hurtful to manager John McAilister who placed a lot of faith in individual players to form the bases of a team. To ask why certain players do not perform in a Kilroot shirt is a million dollar question and one that the individual can only answer. Was it all the changes during the game, was it because some did not take the game seriously enough, is there an answer,if so would you inform John McAilister if your up for a game and save any embarrassment in future games. This in no way takes anything away from Stars performance who were the better side and fully deserved their victory, not forgetting the Star Ref Mr J Hewitt who had a competent game. Kilroot Panel. Gary McNiece, Stephen Kinnon, Graham McCann, Harper Calvert, Colin Martin, David Brown, Gary Clawson, Darren McKinty, Philip Meek, Stephen Green, Colin Adams, Gavin Cairns, Andrew McIlwrath, William Graham and Stephen Arbuthnot.
