Two horror show's in succession, two defeat's in a row against the two bottom teams, first Drumbo, secondly Crumlin Rec. This is is a surreal situation when playing well before these two games. Pointing fingers, not taking responsibility and quite frankly playing like a girl guide team with little or no passion. Turn up and take the points they said, when will Kilroot enter the real world, good teams or bad teams have to be beaten. First ten min's Kilroot one up B/A first to react to a through ball and poke it into the visitor's net. 1-0. One min later Crumlin were even when little resistance was offered. 1-1. Two min's later and Crumlin 2-1 ahead after keen observation by the Kilroot player's. B/A hit Crumlin's bar with a snap shot from 12 yard's. Slick had hard line's with a free kick which was superbly saved. Thirty min's and the hard working Eecky was rewarded with a fine goal after outpacing the Crumlin defence. 2-2. On the stroke of half time the telepathic understanding between Puskey and Gordy was evident when a ball which should have been cleared ended out for a corner, from this corner Crumlin scored number three. 1-3 Half time. Forty six mins the ball was bobbing about like a land mine in Kilroots box with nobody taking responsibility which eventually ended in Kilroot's net.2-4 Sixty min's and from an indirect free kick given for a back pass Crumlin scored number five. 2-5. This prompted drastic action from the Kilroot bench, three subs on, the Rat , Tucker and Chris Martin. Off came Puskey, Colin Martin and Dummy. Crumlin scored number six when Stu Hamilton who was fortunate to be on the pitch at this time after an immature tackle conceded a penalty which Crumlin scored. 2-6. The Rat was upended in the box Kilroot awarded a penalty, Slick converted. 3-6. Kilroot Team. Gorden Priestly, Simon Hamilton, Colin McElnea, Colin Martin, David Adams, Neil McConnell, Robert Dummigan, Stuart Hamilton, Colin Adair, Stephen Donald and Stephen McClean. Sub's Chris Martin, Thomas Hammond and William Graham. Goal scorer's. B/A, Eecky and Slick.
This match switched from Front Road to Lisburn Leisure Centre. The management forgot to tell the Kilroot players about it, okay they were there in spirit not in body and mind and did themselves no justice with an inept performance, void of all sense of purpose, understanding, logic, and the will to battle. The weather certainly did not help, playing against a bitterly cold wind laced with sleet and snow at times. The defending did not help, a goal down in the first minute and all the players looking at each other for an explanation!!!! one down against Drumbo, get real. On the 22 min Drumbo scored number two with a little help from Kilroot. On 36 min's Drumbo increased the score with a little more help from Kilroot, it was looking ominous for kilroot, three down in 36 min's playing against a gale. Kilroot did hold out until half time without any further score and missed a couple of decent chances as well. It did not matter, the second half playing with the wind and with the calibre of players that Kilroot have pulling three goals back, no problem. How wrong can you get the first chance in 46 min's to Kilroot MISS!. One min later another chance MISS!. This was the pattern set for the second half, over the bar, hit the bar, hit the post, wide left, wide right, free kicks no better, over the bar, wide right and left. A real frightener for the football purist. On 75 min's and the management with a little hint of desperation brought on three subs, Adams, Green, and Meek who replaced Mathers, Dummy, and Adair. By this time the wind had dropped, no sleet or snow, Kilroot did not enjoy the same advantages as did Drumbo in the first half but i suppose that's life. The subs, did they make a difference?, to be honest no!, the cast was well set before they came on. 87 min Drumbo scored number four. A well deserved win for Drumbo who only had one sub, one ball which they lost and used our's to complete the match, hey! imagine getting beat with your own ball's, painful or what. The reason i think for such a result, COMPLACENCY! just turn up and take the points, lifes not like that, reality is quite different. Kilroot scorer's NOBODY. Kilroot Team. Robin Brown, Paul Mathers, Colin McElnea, Colin Martin, Simon Hamilton, Robert Dummigan, Colin Adair, Stuart Hamilton, Neil McConnell, Stephen Donald and Stephen McClean. Subs. Stephen Green, David Adams, Philip Meek.

Kilroot Rec II, two win's in a row.

Two four pointer's in succession against opposition we had to beat to progress. Not a pretty match to watch, the super stars of Kilroot's II can sometimes be a little overbearing at times when their silky skills let them down. Kilroot very much on top the first 17 mins culminating in the opening goal, aided by Macker's and Burchy Phearson carried on where he left of last week by scoring. 1-0. As is normal with the forever giving Kilroot team they proceeded to assist Bangor Rgs to level the score. By falling down on the job, not picking up runner's and trying to talk the ball out of the net, it did not work, the time 18 min's..1-1. After this goal Rgs took control of the game by playing football, pass and move simple and effective. Thankfully they did not have any goal scorer's in their side or Kilroot would have been under pressure. On 42 min's and against the run of play Rgs got caught with the offside trap, it did not work, James Phearson from a very tight angel scored his and Kilroot's second goal. 2=1. Half Time. The second half Kilroot's superior fitness started to tell, and they had numerous chances to add to the score but as always happens in football the best chances fall to the best player's. Macker's with a glorious header from 6 yards somehow missed,W Graham had two or three chances to get on the score sheet but again wasted them all. Manderson also wasted two chances before being replaced by Kinnon in the 65 min. Phearson wasted golden chances to add to his tally of five goal's in two matches, as the rest did, so did he miss, miss, miss. Rgs had chances to equalise but McNiece the Kilroot keeper was in the way to frustrate them. Glen Grawford had another comptent game, his second this season so far. SCORER. Phearson, 2. Kilroot Team. Gary McNiece,Graham McCann, Glen Crawford, David Brown, Philip Burch, Andrew McIlwrath, Jonathan Gowdy, James Phearson, Willie Graham and Alan Manderson. Subs, Steven Kinnon,65 min's,Gareth Thomas, Gary Denver, both not used.

Kilroot get a result at East Down.

Another two good points away from home. A dreary, uninspiring, scrappy first half with the home team very much on top. On 20 min's a cross from the right went under Martin's feet as a result of the uneven pitch, the home centre forward advanced unopposed to give Brown in the Kilroot goals no chance. 1-0. East also had other chances to increase their lead but a super save from Brown and a last ditch tackle from Stu Hamilton prevented any further score in the first half. Half Time. The second half saw a much better performance from Kilroot no doubt with a few sharp words of support from Chubs and Taffy still ringing in their ear's. On 54 min's the first sub to come on, Adams on for the infective Meek. 55 min's Adair closed down a home defender when attempting to clear the ball, the ball broke kindly for B/A who scored a great goal from 18 yards. 1-1. B/A was also unlucky when a strong shot from Eecky was parried out to him from keeper, alas it went wide. Martin's free kick to near post was headed goal bound by Slick but cleared. East Down on the attack into Kilroots box, Brown of his line intercepted, and an early punt downfield the East Down team in attempting to play offside got it wrong and B/A again accepted the invation to beat the keeper from 18 yards with coolness and precision. The time 65 min's. 1-2. Adair created a great chance for Adams to score but his shot was over bar. 79 min's sub number two, Green on for B/A. Kilroot in the last ten min's tired very badly and let East back into the game. From one of these chances Brown was quick to clear. Another time Mathers booted one of line. Number three sub Gavin Cairns replaced McClean on 85 min's. Best for Kilroot Si Hamilton out in front. Kilroot Team. Robin Brown, Paul Mathers, Colin McElnea, Colin Martin, Stuart Hamilton, Colin Adair, Neil McConnell, Simon Hamilton, Philip Meek, Steven McClean and Stephen Donald. Subs. David Adams, Stephen Green and Gavin Cairns. SCORER. Stephen Donald. 2

Kilroot breach the Castle defence twice.

Posted by Kilroot Rec at Feb 9, 2002 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
After 3 min's Si Hamilton won ball in midfield lobed it into Castle's box and an unfortunate Castle defender headed into own goal's. 0-1. 10 min's a five man move ended when Slick shot wide from 18 yard's.15 min's a long ball over top from Martin, B/A harassed the home keeper but Eecky could not take advantage of the loose ball and it was cleared. 33 min's Adair courageously won a thunderous challenge in midfield played the ball to Slick who chipped it to Eecky and he passed it into Adair's path who continuing his run, beating the home keeper and centre half to turn the ball into Castle's net. 0-2. 44 min's a measured cross from Meek to pick out B/A, he somehow volleyed wide from 10 yard's. Half Time. The second half seen Castle have much more possession, Puskey, Dummy and martin thwarted any advancement on Kilroots area. It was a battle confined to midfield with Kilroot creating chances on the break. 65 min's Si Hamilton created an opening for B/A, 12 yard's out and only the keeper to beat, a back pass. 67 min's Stu Hamilton was the next to put B/A through on goals and from 18 yard's he blazed over. 70 min's Mather's replaced the very tired Meek. 73 min's B/A turned provider put Stu Hamilton clear and from seven yes seven yards he shot wide. 87 min's Slick Kilroot's alleged play maker created a great chance for Eecky, yes he to shot wide. 89 min's and it's almost over Slick and Eecky combine to create an opening for Si Hamilton who like so many before him blazed it over bar from five (5) yard's. On Castle's last visit to Beltoy they went home with the point's, today Kilroot returned the favour. Kilroot's Goal scorers. O/G Colin Adair. Team. Robin Brown, Colin Adair, Stuart Hamilton, Colin McElnea, Colin Martin, Simon Hamilton, Robert Dummigan, Neil McConnell, Philip Meek, Stephen Donald and Stephen McClean. Sub, Paul Mathers 70 min's.
