Thursday 26th April 2007, Kilroot rec II 5 v 1 Grange Rangers II @ Beltoy 6-45 KO Kilroot scorers Thomas Hammond Neill Hall Stephen McClean Chris Armstrong Andy Mearns This local derby was a low key affair with Granges interest seemingly elsewhere. Kilroot one up in 9 minutes from Thomas Hammond 1-0 11 minutes James Pherson put Neill Hall through to score number two. 2-0 20 minutes saw Ryan Higgins the Grange goal keeper injures and had to retire which didn’t help their cause. 40 minutes and the hard working Stephen McClean got the goal his work rate deserved 3-0. 2 minutes into the second half Thomas Hammond had to retire with a tight hamstring being replaced by Andy Mearns. 51 minutes Granges Chris Bell took advantage of a john Smiley collapse to slot the ball past Phillip Brownlee ion the Kilroot goals 3-1. 61 minutes Kilroot increased their lead through Chris Armstrong 4-1 70 minutes Gary McCauley replaced Phillip Brownlee in the Kilroot goals as he picked up a slight injury. 75 minutes Chris Barry replaced the exhausted James Pherson who never stopped gabbling all match. 89 minutes young Andy Mearns scored a much over due goal to lift a big burden of him 5-1. Tuesday 24th April 2007, Kilroot Rec 2 v 2 Bangor Rangers Kilroot scorers Mark Latimer David Armstrong @ Beltoy Kilroot with three games remaining needed to win them all and hope that the teams above would take points of each other to enable us to slip through the promotion back door but we couldn’t even help ourselves, 2 goals up till 75 minutes Rangers had a player dismissed and still we couldn’t help ourselves. First half pretty much a none event Kilroot denied Rangers two goal scoring opportunities with Phillip Brownlee for the first and assisted in the second by Darren McKinty. Kilroot had a couple of chances a Darren McKinty mazy run and shot was saved by Rangers keeper Mark Latimer missed one at the back post. Kilroot took the lead on 39 minutes from a Kidd cross Mark Latimer made amends for an earlier miss by planting the ball past the Rangers keeper. 1-0, 42 minutes and Kilroot thought Christmas had came early a poor clearance from Rangers keeper was picked up by Kilroot’s David Kidd 25 yards no defenders ran at keeper his shot hit the advancing keeper and was cleared what a miss ? Second half Darren McKinty squandered a great chance from a David Armstrong free kick straight onto his head 15 yards out his bullet like header sailed over the bar. 55 minutes Kilroot got another free kick 25 yards out on the right hand side David Armstrong squeezed it past the keeper on the near post. 2-0 65 minutes rangers were denied two goal scoring chances resulting from a corner first Paul Mathers and then Stuart Hamilton cleared goal bound shots of the Kilroot line. 75 minutes Rangers player Brent Howell was dismissed for a foul on John Mathers. The sending off seem to ignite the hunger in the Rangers players as they took the game to Kilroot. 76 minutes James Pherson replaced Mark Latimer. 80 minutes from a Ranger breakaway Phillip Brownlee made a great save turning the ball away for a corner; Kilroot had three chances to clear the incoming corner and failed Keith Mcready of Rangers made no mistake blasting the ball into the net.2-1, 85 minutes Glen Crawford replaced John Mathers who had been the subject of some heavy tackles. In the 5th minute of injury time Kilroot’s Paul Mathers the hero of so many last ditch tackles, goal line clearances mistimed his tackle on a Rangers forward the referee pointed to the spot, there followed the usual arguments a little pushing and shoving and surprise, surprise Kilroot’s captain and leader of men Stuart Hamilton was dismissed for raising his hands. After the long delay Rangers John Maxwell kept his cool and sent Brownlee the wrong way to earn a deserved draw. Saturday 21st April 2007, Queens II 2 v 5 Kilroot Rec Kilroot scorers Mark Latimer (2) John Mathers David Armstrong Phillip Burnside This is always a tricky match away to Queens II at the Dub a formidable team and Kilroot after a few scares in the first half ran out easy winners. Queens had the better of the first half with Phillip Brownlee the busier of the keepers. Queens took the lead on 28 minutes after the ball bobbled about the box was not cleared. 1-0 Kilroot did have chances with David kid, Stephen McClean and John Mather’s squandering chances. 47 minutes Kilroot equalised from an unusual source Phillip Burnside taking advantage from a David Kidd free kick deadly from three yards. 1-1 48 minutes Kilroot in front another David Kidd free kick found John Mathers who headed the ball into the goals. 1-2 57 minutes Latimer wasted a good chance set up by McClean and Kidd. 60 minutes Stephen McClean had to retire being replaced by Phillip Glover. 65 minutes Queens level again. 2-2 70 minutes the out of touch Darren McKinty was replaced by the travelling Colin Adair. 76 minutes a Kilroot corner taken by Kidd not cleared by Queens, Latimer reacted first to squeeze the ball home. 2-3 78 minutes a defence splitting pass from Stuart Hamilton flicked on by John Mathers picked up by Latimer who rounded the keeper before slotting the ball into the empty net. 2-4 85 minutes Gary Mulholland (forty years old) replaced John Mathers. 90 minutes Philip Glover played in Kidd whose cross found David Armstrong to score from 6 yards. 2-5 Kilroot team Phillip Brownlee, Paul Mathers, Phillip Burnside, Stuart Hamilton, Barry Meek, Mark Latimer, David Armstrong, Darren McKinty (Colin Adair 70) Stephen McClean (Phillip Glover 60) David Kidd, John Mathers (Gary Mulholland 85)

Queens Colts rapid fire to much for Kilroot II

Saturday 21st April 2007, Kilroot rec II 3 v5 Queens Colts Kilroot scorers James Pherson Gary McCahon Darren White. This was a topsy turvy game Kilroot starting as if it was going to be a mauling two goals up in ten minutes first scored by James Pherson making his way back from injury and the second by Gary McCahon set up by James Pherson. 2-0 Queen Colts reduced the arrears on 42 minutes from a long ball from the keeper arms deceived all everyone leaving to the other and it didn’t happen. 2-1 Kilroot got a rude introduction to the second half when the nippy Colts equalised on 46 minutes. 2-2 52 minutes Kilroot in front again this time it was Darren White the scorer. 3-2 Kilroot held the lead until the seventy second minute when the eager beavers of Queens equalised again after some kamikaze defending by Kilroot. 3-3 70 minutes James Pherson was replaced by Neill Hall after being booked. Kilroot made a substitution on 75 minutes Andy Mearns replacing Thomas Hammond. 76 minutes Colts deservedly in front as the Joe Duffy Circus of defending by Kilroot was again breached. 3-4 81 minutes the Colts compounded Kilroot’s misery by scoring a fifth goal. 3-5 85 minutes Chris Barry replaced Gary McCahon. The referees whistle came as a reprieve to the bewildered Kilroot players who were glad that this match was over. Thursday 19th April 2007, Newington Rangers II 2 v 1 Kilroot Rec II Newington scorers Kilroot scorer Simon Cheung Thomas Hammond Mark Hagan’s This local derby turned out to be a damp squib with Kilroot having the better of the first half and Newington the second. .Kilroot went into the lead on 5 minutes from a Chris Armstrong cross found the energetic Thomas Hammond whose diving header gave the home keeper no chance. 0-1 Kilroot’s keeper Phillip Brownlee made a brave save at the feet of a Newington player to prevent the equaliser. Second half Kilroot didn’t appear and Newington gave them the run-around scoring two goals through Sammy Cheung and Mark Hagan’s and had other chances but for poor finishing and Phillip Brownlee in the Kilroot goals the score would have been more. Kilroot made three changes during the course of the second period Andy Mearns, Neill Hall and Darren white replaced Trevor Cole, Phillip Glover and Thomas Hammond but this had little effect on the outcome of the game.
