A small group of Minutemen traveled to New Milford High School on Sunday, December 13th for the Kick-Off Classic Wrestling Tournament. The group wrestled extremely well on the day with the following finishes; Tyler Ebrahimi in his first tournament as a Mighty Mite placed 2nd with three wins two my pin, Bantam Maleeah Rios finished three and one on the day but took first on a point criteria as she pinned two of her opponents, Elijah Ortiz in the Intermediate Division finished 2nd with a 2-2 record pulling out a third period win in his last match to beat his opponent 5-3 and fellow Intermediate wrestler Nicky Ebrahimi won both his matches by pin to bring home a gold medal. In the afternoon Novice wrestler Johnny Rosario won one match on the day in a six man bracket. Head Coach Roger Moss said, "We have only been wrestling for about a month and have missed numerous nights due to school activities but they looked good as a whole and we now know some of the areas we need to work on to get better on the mat." Assistant Coach Fred Orde added, "I liked the aggressiveness of some of our wrestlers today, they went right after their opponent and won the matches. Tyler went out and won his first match ever by pin which was awesome."

Photo Day WEDNESDAY 12/16 - have uniform
Photo Day Coming Wednesday, December 16th: Online Photo Registration (OPR) is now live for Berlin Youth Wrestling OPR is a pre-order service that allows parents to place their orders online prior to photo day ??(Note: this link will expire at the end of your final photo day for this season, anyone wishing to order photos must do so on or before photo day and bring an e-ticket with that order to photo day). OPR is the easiest way to order photos and offers families advantages that aren't available on our traditional forms, such as the option to "Build Your Own Package" and a discount if placing three or more orders. It will help cut down on possible errors and ensure a smoother photo day as more families will come prepared.

Minutemen Youth Wrestling Program Grades K – 8 Sign-ups Being Taken
Berlin, CT - Come join this exciting program and learn how to wrestle. This program will teach the basic moves used in high school. Nothing like you see on television, No WWE here! Have fun and be safe. Contests and games will be used to teach basic skills in wrestling. No experience necessary and participants wrestle against opponents of their own weight and ability. Wrestling will improve balance, hand-eye coordination, self-confidence and teach teamwork. Full details may be found at our website at: www.berlinwrestling.com. Head coach Roger Moss said, “This is a great program that teaches many life skills as well as the sport its self.” The program is potentially divided into two groups depending on the number of participants. All first and second year wrestlers will meet on Monday and Wednesday from 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Then on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM the program will be offered for all others who have wrestled for more than two years. We will have an open mat practice on Friday nights for all members of the team until matches start from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. Practices will be held in the McGee Middle School Café on Norton Road. There will be no practice when school is closed. Beginning in January, matches against other youth programs will be held on Friday evenings. Registration includes: a T-shirt, USAW Membership, insurance and plenty of action! Program runs from Monday, November 9, 2015 to Wednesday, March 9, 2016. Those wishing to check it out before registering should attend on November 9th at 6 pm. Participants should wear T-shirt, shorts/sweatpants, socks and wrestling shoes or other lightweight sneakers. Clothing with zippers is not allowed. Cost to participate: $80.00 for first child and $70 for each additional child. Practices start tonight Monday, November 9th at 6 pm. We may be in the gym and if not there check the cafe on the second floor. Registration forms will be available but if you bring one completed it will speed up the registration process.
