End of Season Nears

Posted by Roger Moss at Feb 17, 2016 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

To All,

The season is quickly coming to an end. Some of you we have not seen in a very long time. If you have not turned in equipment that belongs to the team please do so on either Monday, February 22 or Wednesday February 24 at the McGee Cafe.

The end of year party will take place on Monday, March 7th unless I hear from folks that there is something going on in the schools that I am unaware of. It will start at 6 pm and include pizza, salad, beverage and cake. As in the past everyone is invited including family members and the fee per person is $5.00.

Dina Landon is collecting donations for the coaches gifts and would like $20 per child which you can give to either her or her husband Joe. If you don't know who they are put it in an envelope with your child's name and give it to coach Moss.

At the end of year party we give out trophies, hope to have a slide show this year, hear from the graduating seniors at Berlin about thier experience in wrestling and give out our annual CJ McCormack Scholarship award.

If you have any questions just ask. We have qualifier this weekend at Bristol Central with the top four place finishers wrestling on February 28th at Hillhouse Fieldhouse in New Haven. The last tournament of the year is the following weekend in Thomaston High.

If you need to talk to me call my cell at 860-987-7744.

Thanks, Coach Moss

On Sunday, February 21, 2016 sixteen Minutemen traveled to Bristol Central High School for the regional qualifer to advance to the State Tournament in New Haven on February 28th.  There was plenty of stiff competition as teams from Bristol, Cheshire, East Hartford, Enfield, Meriden, Newington, Plainville, Rocky Hill (KT Kidz), Simsbury (FishEye), Somers, Southington, South Windsor, Suffield (Warriors), Thomaston (CT Green Knight) , Wethersfield and Winsted (Hurricane) all showed looking to qualify.

The Intermediates were led by Cayden Hill at 80 lbs and Nicky Ebrahimi at 95 lbs with first place finishes.  Also qualifying were Julian Shaw 95 lbs 2nd place, and Hiram Sepulveda 87 lbs., 4th place.  Wrestling tough on the day in the Intermediate Division were Austin Teti, Davian Rodriguez, Mason Arborio, Elijah Ortiz, Mason Hill, Aiden DeJesus and Conlan Simard.

In the Novice Division the Minutemen had three entries and all three advanced as JoJo Gonzalez in his first year of wrestling placed 2nd at 80 lbs. Johnny Rosario placed 2nd at 112 Lb. and Landon Vieira placed 3rd at 85 lbs. in one of the toughest weight classes in the entire tournament.

In the Middle School Division Sebby Gabor placed 2nd at 190 lbs while Vinny DeFrancesco placed 5th just out of qualifying afer lossing in Over Time 8-6.

So half of the Minutemen who wrestled will via for a State Title next weekend.
