De La Salle High School will be hosting a youth coaching clinic on May 4th, 2002 at De La Salle High School from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The cost is $20 per coach if you register now, $25 at the door. There will also be door prizes from Adams Corporation, Maskill Sleds, and McNish Sporting Goods. The clinic is designed for CYO, Junior High, Rocket, Pop Warner, or any youth coach. Each year, De La Salle will bring in top colllege coaches to speak about the best possible method to teach the game of football. Some of the featured speakers at the 2002 De La Salle Football Clinic are Bill Sheridan of the University of Michigan, Dan Enos from Western Michigan University, Joe Gilbert of the University of Toledo, Bob Schroeder of Wayne State University, and Dave Arnold of Albion College. Head Coach Paul Verska has his football staff set for the 2002 football season, setting in motion what will surely be an exciting year in De La Salle football. Here is the varsity staff as follows: Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Special Teams: Paul Verska Defensive Coordinator, Cornerbacks, Quarterbacks: Mike Lewis Offensive tackles, Tight Ends, Outside Linebackers: Mike Szatkowski Defensive Line, Running Backs: Shayne Raxter Center, Guards, Inside Linebackers: Mike Brosnan Defensive Consultant: Tony DeSantis JV Football (so far): Mark Julian Freshman Football: Jim Verska, Greg Hoskins, Matt Giacona With the varsity staff set, people should look forward to a very exciting year of football, making De La Salle winners again in the Catholic League and the state.
De La Salle alumnus Bill Sheridan, class of 1977, has accepted the position of recruiting coordinator and linebacker coach for the University of Michigan. Sheridan was also previously a graduate assistant at Michigan for the 1985 and 1986 seasons. Before coming to Michigan, Sheridan also coached at Maine, Cincinnati, Army, Michigan State, and most recently Notre Dame. Congratulations Coach Sheridan on your appointment at Michigan. At a meeting today with all the De La Salle football players, Paul Verska was named to be the new head coach at De La Salle Collegiate High School. He was perviously the head coach at Ann Arbor Huron. He has perviously coached at Detroit Servite, Cadillac, and AA Gabriel Richard. Verska is a MHSFCA Hall of Famer (2001), and was Class AA Coach of the Year in 1997 when his team lost to Catholic Central in the state final and was Region 3 AA Coach Of the Year this past year. He played for CMU, starter and captain for three years and was the MVP his senior year. He also served in the Marine Corps during Viet Nam. He will teach P.E. at DLS, making him the first in-house FB coach at DeLaSalle since John Maronto in the mid-80s. Dear De La Salle Football Players, Parents, Alumni, and Friends On Monday, December 3rd, Mr. Terry George, Principal, and Mr. Mike Jolly, Athletic Director, accepted the formal resignation of Coach Tim Brandon. Coach Brandon earned our respect as an individual of exceptional character and as a coach who worked extremely hard.
