Fall Season Just Around the Corner

Posted by Dale Dubois at Jul 11, 2002 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The fall season will be starting at the end of next month. We need to know who is committed to playing for the roster. Unless you can make at least 5 games, please do not sign up to play. We had great attendance from most players in the spring and we do have some new players who would like to join. So check your schedules, coaching, wives, jobs, etc, and get back to management regarding your availability. Contract negotiations are still ongoing so be patient.

Bedford Falls to Newton 6-2 in the Finals

Posted by Dale Dubois at Jun 30, 2002 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Bedford Pacers ended their well played season on a sour note, with a 6-2 loss to the Newton Limited club. The Pacers never could get things going on the very short field. Bedford would fall behind early and never recover. Bedford would show some life in the second half and score a couple. Paul Cote would thow the ball in to Dale Dubois, who would turn it inside with a pass to Scott Sharby. Scott would hit a left footer into back netting. Jeff Bailey would follow this with a finish from Bertie O'Gorman to bring the score to 4-2. However, Newton would counter with two more to end the Pacer hopes. The Pacers will be moving to Division 2 in the fall. Congratulations to all the Pacer Players for a fine season. Management will be reviewing contracts over the summer break. We will get together in early August to kick the ball around. Have a Great Summer......
The Bedford Pacers advanced to the finals by beating the Boston White Eagles, 3-2 in double sudden death overtime yesterday morning. The field was sloppy from three days of rain as the the two teams started this semifinal match at Legacy field. Bedford would take the field, sporting their bright yellow pinnys because, if you are polish, red and red is just like maroon and black. The first half would start with Bedford controlling the game. It was difficult to maintain possession of the ball with the field conditions. The play would be back and forth with each side getting their chances, but the first half would remain scoreless. The second half would start out poorly for Bedford, as they would give up an own goal in the first five minutes of play. A little miscommunication and a very sloppy field in the box would lead to the Boston Goal. The Pacers were not shaken though. They would maintain composure and work the ball in for their chances. Marco would receive the ball at midfield with some space. He would work the ball towards the eighteen and rip a shot of the keepers chest. Jeff Guilds was charging in and would beat the keeper to the rebound and tie the score at one apiece. About ten minutes later Marco would receive the ball again at midfield and this time work it outside to Brian Germaine on the left. Brian would push the ball passed the defender and hit a perfect cross on to the head of Jeff Bailey. Jeff would get nothing but net and the Pacers were up by a goal. Jeff would make a friendly gesture to one of the Boston defenders to show his appreciation of the goal. A few polish remarks were recorded. Things were desperate for Boston as they pushed everyone up. Bedford did a good job containing "shooter", the left footed Boston midfielder, throughout the match. However, "shooter" would manage to crank a shot that would awkwardly deflect off a Bedford player and fool Chris Cloutier for the equalizer. This is how the regulation time would end, tied 2-2. Bedford would win the toss and choose the less sloppy of the two ends to start. Each team had chances. Chris Cloutier came up hugh on a couple of rockets and Scott Sharby would ping one off the upper cross bar, but the score remained tied through the first 15 minute overtime. The second over time was going the same way and as time was winding down, the Bedford players were thinking about who would be taking the PK's. Not a pleasant thought, given our past performance on PK's. It would not have to be, however, as Bedford would earn a corner kick late in the period. Marco would line up for the kick and hit a low hard drive to the near post. Jeff Bailey would dummy the ball and it would land on the chest of Dale Dubois. Dale would hit a shot that was deflected out by the keeper back to the foot of Bertie O'Gorman. Bertie would knock it in for the game winner. The Boston team would leave very unhappy with a few more polish words for the referees. Bedford would be on its way to Stoneham for the finals next Sunday. We will be playing the winner of the Danvers-Newton match. The game is at 9 AM at Stoneham High school. The team will meet at the park and ride no later than 8 AM. GREAT WIN
The Pacers will open the semifinal game at home this Sunday morning against the runner up of the 3S division, the Boston White Eagles. We are still unsure of what happened to the So Boston Bohemians, that have been curiously erased from the record books. In any case, with their departure, Newton was promoted to division champs and will take on our friends, the Danvers Internationals. The Boston White Eagles will travel to Legacy park tomorrow morning as the Pacers have the home field advantage. Jeff Guild will be lining the field before the game aroung 8 AM. Anyone who can lend a hand would be appreciated. Lets all show up by 8:30 AM the latest so that we can start out ready to play.

Bedford Pacers Win Division Championship

Posted by Dale Dubois at Jun 9, 2002 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Bedford Pacers captured the Division 3N championship with a tie against second place Danvers, yesterday morning. A tie was all that was needed to put the undefeated Pacers out of reach and send them to Division 2N for the fall season. The game would start out a bit rough for Bedford, however, giving up two sloppy goals to the Internationals in the opening minutes of play. Bedford would calm down and start knocking the ball around. Leading scorer, Jeff Bailey would put Bedford on the board, finishing on a nice through pass from Bertie O'Gorman. The momentum shifted in Bedford direction now. The Pacers would work the ball out of the backfield, crossing it to Joe Correai. Joe would turn the ball and feed Jeff Bailey at the 18. Jeff would do what he does best, and finish for his second goal of the day. Bedford was clearly in control now and looking for more. The tide would turn however, as Danvers would transition quickly to catch Bedford flat. Chris Cloutier would attempt to clear the through pass, only to deflect off a Pacer defender to the foot of a Danvers striker. Danvers would be up, 3-2 at the half. Bedford was still confident they could pull off the win after the half time pep talk. The second half was back and forth at the start, which seem to get the referee rather winded and out of position. A missed hand ball call in the Danvers end and seconds later a questionable hand ball call in the Bedford end would result in a Danvers PK. Danvers would capitalize on the opportunity and increase their lead to 4-2. Bedford remained composed and continued to knock the ball around. Bedford would get a throw in deep in the Danvers end. Scott Sharbey would flick the throw in off his head to the foor of Bertie O'Gorman, who would deposit it into the net. The clock started to become Bedfords enenmy. The Pacers would push every one up in the final minutes, looking for the equalizer. Danvers would pack it in their defensive zone. A deflected Bedford shot would result in a corner kick from the left side. Jeff Bailey would line up for the kick and hit a beauty onto the 6 yard box. The ball would just clear the heads of a Bedford and Danvers player and fall to the feet of Scott Sharby. Scott would react hitting the upper left corner knotting the score at 4. Bedford, satisfied with the road tie, would play conservative and run the clock out. The tie would improve the Pacers undefeated record to 7-0-2. Bedford has one game to make up against Billerica. The results are meaningless, as Bedford has already captured the championship. A friendly game may be played to keep the skills in tact, if a field can be utilized. Bedford opens up the semifinals at home against Boston White Eagles, the runner up of the 3S division, Sunday morning at 9 AM at Legacy Field. Come early to get a good seat. Admission is still free.
