Softball Star to Fulfill Lifelong Dream of Playing College Ball

By Greg Clementi, Sports Editor

Wednesday, December 19, 2012 ....Talent and tenacity have paid big dividends for Analy senior softball star Madi Ortega, who signed a letter of intent on Dec. 13 to attend Georgetown College in Kentucky. For Ortega, who transferred to Analy after beginning her prep career at Ursuline, it’s the culmination of years of hard work both on the field and in the classroom.

“Getting to college has always been my main goal so I’m really excited to have this opportunity,” said Ortega, who plans to major in Kinesiology with an eye toward earning a PHD. “Aside from softball, I’m most proud of what I’ve achieved academically, maintaining a 4.0 grade-point-average in advanced placement classes.”

Ortega was recruited by several colleges including Sacramento State, and Lakeland (Wisconsin), but chose Georgetown in Kentucky based on a trip to the school following her sophomore year." “I really liked the campus and got along well with the players on the team,” Ortega said.

The hard-hitting junior shortstop/third-baseman batted .328 last season in helping the Tigers to a 15-11 record and a trip to the North Coast Section playoffs, but has set even loftier goals for her senior campaign. “I’d like to hit .400 this year and see us go undefeated in league,” she said.

PLAYER AND PARENT CONTRACT

Posted by Rosanne Mace at Nov 25, 2012 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
I promise to attend all practices and tournaments or notify the coaching staff in advance if I am going to miss a practice or a game. I realize if I miss practice that I could not start or play in an upcoming tournament.

I promise to be at all practices, ready to go at the designated time. It is my responsibility to get there and have the equipment I need to participate. I will be alert, attentive to the training, do my best to learn and conduct myself as a young adult. I will not use profanity nor will I have cigarettes, drugs or alcohol in my possession.

I also understand that it is not mandatory that I start or play in any tournament. I must earn my position and playing time. The coaching staff has the final say on positions and who starts or plays. I realize that I am not guaranteed a position. What I am guaranteed is softball training worth more than what I am paying.
