December 2012....Congratulations to Alyssa Ross who has verballed to play for the 2014 Argonauts softball team of Notre Dame de Namur.
November 29, 2012...Arcata, CA-Frank Cheek recruited Shelby Holzworth to the Jacks' team as a first baseman, but he isn't going to rule out her pitching skills in case they become of use to HSU. Holzworth, who plans to major in kinesiology, plays softball (and basketball) at Maria Carrillo High School in Santa Rosa.
"Holzworth is tall and swings a big bat," said Cheek. "She hits with authority and impressed me with her poise at the plate. She's just going to get stronger with weights, and will look to be a four or five hitter."
A Santa Rosa native, Holzworth was named to the All-North Bay League first team and All-Empire second team in 2012 after ranking second in the league for RBIs and on-base percentage, adding to her second team league honors as a sophomore.
