2002 Sting Pitcher, Candice Rainwater, Named First-Team, All-WAC Utility Player
May 17, 2004
DENVER - Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Candice Rainwater (Dana Point, Calif., Dana Hills H.S.), was named to the Western Athletic Conference first team as the utility player today in voting done by the WAC coaches. She was the lone selection on either the 11-member first or second team for the third-place Wolf Pack.
Rainwater, who was named Nevada's pitcher of the year at the annual awards' banquet over the weekend, was second in wins (13), one behind team-leader Tiffany Hoeft, and posted a 2.56 ERA for third-best. She had the most appearances of any Nevada pitcher with 35 and earned the WAC weekly award as the top player (once) and top pitcher (once) this season.
The versatile Rainwater also led the team with a .330 batting average, added four home runs for second-best on the team, knocked in 25 runs for third (tie) on the squad and had the second-highest slugging percentage with a .495 listing.
Nevada finished the season 38-28 and 13-11 in the WAC for third-place in just their second year back as a varsity sport. The 38 wins is a school record and the squad set 10 other marks during the season.
