2002 Sting Pitcher, Candice Rainwater, Named First-Team, All-WAC Utility Player

May 17, 2004

DENVER - Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Candice Rainwater (Dana Point, Calif., Dana Hills H.S.), was named to the Western Athletic Conference first team as the utility player today in voting done by the WAC coaches. She was the lone selection on either the 11-member first or second team for the third-place Wolf Pack.

Rainwater, who was named Nevada's pitcher of the year at the annual awards' banquet over the weekend, was second in wins (13), one behind team-leader Tiffany Hoeft, and posted a 2.56 ERA for third-best. She had the most appearances of any Nevada pitcher with 35 and earned the WAC weekly award as the top player (once) and top pitcher (once) this season.

The versatile Rainwater also led the team with a .330 batting average, added four home runs for second-best on the team, knocked in 25 runs for third (tie) on the squad and had the second-highest slugging percentage with a .495 listing.

Nevada finished the season 38-28 and 13-11 in the WAC for third-place in just their second year back as a varsity sport. The 38 wins is a school record and the squad set 10 other marks during the season.

There is a race (marathon) scheduled for Sunday morning at Bill Barber.  Therefore, we will move the practice to Meadowood Park in Irvine starting at 8:30 AM.
Meadowood Park is located In Irvine at the very north end of Yale Avenue.  If you are coming from outside of Irvine take the 5 freeway to Culver and head North.  Turn right on Meadowood and continue for about a mile.  The park will be on your left-hand side.

We will start practice this Sunday, May 2 promptly at 8:30 AM.

Also, Blair will be arranging to have video taken for those needing to put together a skills CD for colleges they are interested in sending one to.  Wear a STING uniform to practice so you can look your best for the video (it doesn't matter which one).
Finally, please email me your most recent SAT score and high school GPA.  We need to provide information for the Boulder tournament in order to have our team bio printed in the tournament program.  Of course, we will be updating our own player books with even more recent scores and GPAs immediately prior to the Boulder tournament.  However, in order to meet the tournament deadline for their program I need your most recent scores ASAP.  Thanks!
