Mickey Moniak finished his four year career at La Costa Canyon High School by setting school one year season records of most hits in one season at 53; most triples in one season at 12; Most runs batted in - one season at 46; and School career records for Highest Batting Average  of .445;  Runs Batted In of 102; and Total number of hits 156;

MAVERICKS IN THE MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL DRAFT

2016 In June of 2016 Maverick Center Fielder Mickey Moniak was drafted Number 1 in the very first round by the Philadelphia Phillies. 2014 In June of 2014 Max McNabb (2010) a left handed pitcher out of the University of San Diego, was drafted in the 18th round by the San Diego Padres. 2013 On June 6, 2013, Michael Swanner (Class of 2010) was drafted in the 16th round by the Atlanta Braves. Michael is a junior at Pepperdine University. Michael signed and is playing Rookie ball at Danville. On June 6, 2013, Garrett Hughes (2009) was drafted in the 19th round by the San Francisco Giants. Garrett is a redshirt Junior at Stanford University. Garret had not signed as of July 9th. On June 6, 2013, Danny Bethea (2008) was drafted by the Boston Red Sox. On June 6, 2013, Garrett Smith (2008) was drafted by the Cleveland Indians. 2011 On June 7, 2011, Phillip Evans (Class of 2011) was drafted by the New York Mets in the 15th round of the 2011 MLB draft. Phillip will have the option of signing with the Mets or going to San Diego State University. 2010 On June 7, 2010, Will Swanner (Class of 2010) was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 15th round of the 2010 MLB draft. On August 12th Will became the first Maverick to sign with a Major League team directly out of La Costa Canyon high school. The Rockies have assigned Will to their Casper Wyoming Rookie league affiliate. Will gave up a scholarship and the opportunity of playing with his brother Michael at Peperdine University to pursue his dream of playing Major League Baseball. 2008 On June 8, 2008, Mike Kenny (Class of 2004) was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels with the 859th pick in the 28th round of the 2008 MLB First Year Player Draft. 2006 On June 6, 2006 Paul Oseguera(Class of 2002) was drafted in the 16th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the San Francisco Giants. Paul had the option of returning to UCLA for another year of eligibility but he signed with San Francisco. Paul reported to Arizona on June 16th and was then sent to Salem-Keiser in the Oregon short season instructional league. In his first year Paul appeared 16 games, with a total of 29.0 innings pitched and a record of 2 wins, 1 loss, with 2 saves, 9 walks, 39 strike outs, 12 earned runs on 25 hits with an ERA of 3.72. In the Fall Quarter Paul was back at UCLA taking classes towards finishing his degree. 2003 On June 3, 2003 Jessie Schmidt (Class of 2000) was drafted in the 10th round of the MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants. Jesse spent two years at Palomar and had one great year at Sacramento State where he set several team records. 2002 In June of 2002 Paul Oseguera became the first La Costa Canyon High School alumni drafted in the Major League player draft, but after under going Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow he elected to attend UCLA instead of signing as a low round pick with the Texas Rangers.image

 LJCD edged La Costa Canyon 4 - 3 in the opening game of the 2016 Open Division Double Elimination CIF Playoffs; and then on Friday May 27 th the Mavs lost to Grossmont 2-1 in an elimination game.

Grossmont lost to Eastlake 5-6 in their opening game.  Cathedral Catholic defeated Eastlake 5-2 to win the 2016 CIF Open Division Championship.

  On Saturday May 21st, 2016 the Mavericks were awarded the Number 1 Seed in the eight team 2016 Open Division Playoffs, followed by #2 Rancho Bernardo, #3 Cathedral, #4 Eastlake, #5 Grossmont, #6 Carlsbad, #7 Helix and #8 LJCD.

  The Mavericks are in the Upper Division with LJCD, Grossmont and Eastlake. They host LJCD in their opening game on Wed. May 25th at 3:30 pm.

The Lower Division includes Rancho Bernardo, Cathedral, Carlsbad and Helix.

The CIF Open Division Championship Game is scheduled for Sat. June 4th at 7:00 at USD Fowler Stadium.

  The 2016 CIF Division 1 Bracket includes #2 Seed Vista, #10 RBV and #11 El Camino. 

  Sage Creek was placed as the #2 Seed in Division 4.
