News and Announcements

Orioles,
Playoffs for the upper divisions have kicked in to high gear as BOTH your coaches teams enter the final games to fight for 1st Place!
Unfortunately this means we have no coaches left to run a practice tomorrow. We are shorthanded coaching our Minor A Angels on field 2 and both Coach Mel and Coach Wick have to be there at 4pm for warmups. Coach John will be with the Minor B Orioles on field 3 at 4pm.
BOTH games start at 5pm AND Majors has a playoff game on Field 1 as well.
We invite you all to come and watch any of these playoff games as the season wraps up and these teams battle for 1st place. I apologize for the double booking, but there was no other options for the game or the practice field to switch it up and we didnt know we were playing Thursday until both our teams won last night.

If we don’t see you tomorrow, we will all neet at 8:30am for warmups for our final game this Saturday at 9am and will have closing day ceremonies, player parade, trophies passed out and then can all meet up for our team party.

Sorry for the late notice (team pages was down), and sorry for the inconvenience.
Hope to see you rooting on your favorite upper division teams tomorrow.
Thanks all,
Coach Mel

We’re paired up with the Blue Jays for a Closing Day ceremony game on June 1st at 9am (8:30 warm-ups); then I hope you can all stay for Closing Day Ceremonies, which includes a quick player/team parade, passing out of regular season trophies and the presentation of the Cameron McAfee award to one special player on each team.
They’ve offered to handle ‘announcing’ for us at this game and wanted to bump it up a notch with some fun facts about our players. Please fill this out and EMAIL it to them/ME before the end of next week (by Wed, May 29th if possible). Thanks.

We have a Team Practice Thursday on Field #5 @ 4:30pm – please text me at 619-925-1316 if you cannot make that, or our game on Saturday.

If you’re around tomorrow evening, there’s a very good PALL Minor A team (Angels) playing a very good National League team (Braves) on our Majors Field #1 by the Snack Shack. Logan’s older brother, Weston, plays for the Angels and Coach Wick and I coach that team with Coach Greg Strachan. It’s always fun to take the younger players to watch the older kids and see what they have to look forward to, and how the upper division games go.

Some things/rules that are different in the upper divisions include:
• Minor B, then Minor A, then Majors (in LL) – and they are ‘competitive divisions’ that keep official score cards and pitch counts at every game
• competitive divisions have a slightly shorter regular season, then move in to playoffs at the end to determine 1st and 2nd place teams
• they can ‘lead off’ after the ball crosses the plate, and steal bases (and they do… a LOT)
• they have kids pitching to the opposing team, with regular pitch calling/counts (…3 strikes and you’re OUT)
• they have rules for how many runs can be scored each inning and how many innings need to be played for a ‘full game’
• they keep strict, strategic batting line-ups and pay attention to stats, such as strike-outs, walks, hits, RBIs etc and kids will earn their place in the line-up
• fielding is much more intense, and coaches will be very strategic in placing players in certain positions and start honing in on developing the right kids for the right positions, especially players that want to pitch and/or catch

… and many more things to consider for the kids, and parents, as the players advance to the upper divisions.

You may hear me talking to some of the older players about moves, plays, etc. for when they get up to Minor B. If you, or the players, have any questions regarding the divisions, the differences, or want any information or advice, please feel free to reach out to me, or Coach Wick. We’d be more than happy to explain further, and even do some drills and skills to prep for moving up!

Coach Mel

Team,
Sorry if there was some confusion with alerts/messages from Team Pages as I made some changes to our calendar this week. I had scheduled a practice for our team next Monday, but then we had our Minor A team rescheduled for a make-up game (from Opening Day) that evening. I found an open field for Tuesday and put in a practice for that day. The coach of the YANKEES is available to do a make-up game for our missed game this last Tuesday, so instead of practice – we’ll be doing a game.

TUESDAY (MAKE-UP) GAME: 3-19-19
Field #5 @ 4:45 (arrive at 4:15 for warm-ups if possible) against Yankees
We are HOME team and will be in the 1st Base Dugout and will need to set up the field/equipment

BRING CHAIRS!!!!
There is not seating at Field 5 for our AWESOME FANS!!

THURSDAY (REGULAR) GAME 3-21-19
Field #4 @ 4:45 (arrive at 4:15) against the Red Sox
We are away and will be on the 3rd base dugout side, and responsible for putting equipment away AFTER the game

SATURDAY (REGULAR) GAME 3-23-19
Field #4 a@ 1pm (arrive at 12:30 for warm-ups)
We are away again (3rd base dugout)

I know 3 games in 1 week may seem like a lot, so if you feel you need to miss one PLEASE JUST LET ME KNOW. We’re just making up some missed fun from the rain, and it’s great practice for the players.

SHOUT OUT
…to Mrs. Bunje and Mrs. Mckibbin for volunteering for our SNACK SHACK SHIFT Monday evening – the Wicklund’s will see you there (hopefully celebrating a Minor A game win)

Thanks Guys!
See you tomorrow – all dressed and ready to crush it again!

Nooooooooooo - GAME CANCELED TODAY

Posted by Melissa Wicklund at Mar 12, 2019 2:36PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

BUMMER – we were on a roll and gonna have a GREAT game.
They had to close the fields today, such a bummer.

I’m going to look up field availability over the next few weeks and see if we can’t get in some make-up games. We have missed 2 already and the games are the BEST part!!

I’ll keep everyone posted and will add to our TEAM PAGES calendar if I can find a field and an opponent for us!

Have a good night off I guess… and we will see you all SATURDAY at 8:30 am on Field #4 to play the Royals, dressed and ready for our next game! Have the players eat a good breakfast! We are ‘AWAY’ team and will be in the 3rd base dugout.

Thanks,
Coach Mel
