2008/2009 All Blacks

Greetings All Blacks,

Let the frivolity begin, for, lo, the season of (indoor soccer) joy is upon us, breathing heavy in our ears.

Many thanks to Paul and Dan for compiling most of the following information, which I will now interpret and distort for my own vile purposes, as I lie hear, corpulent and pussy ("corpussy"? "corpussulent"?). I’m kind of thinking Jabba the Hut to their Boba Fett/Princess Leia (assign these roles as you choose).

Anyway, here’s the summary, with details below:

1. REGISTER: Register online for the season at www.ashl.ca by October 15th at latest! (It’s easy!) 2. PLAYER CARD: As soon as possible after registering, but definitely before our first game (week of October 19th), go down to Canlan/the Highlander and get a player card (It’s free!) 3. PRACTICE: Come to James’ school, Westgate Collegiate on October 15th at 9:30pm for practice and paying fees (James-easy!; Fees-not free!) 4. FEES: 175 buckeroos (1 buckeroo=1 CDN dollar), payable to moi, Dan, or direct to Canlan by October 18th.
5. SCHEDULE: should be released tomorrow (Friday Oct 10th)

Okay, here’s greater details on these five points:

1. REGISTER

Register online at www.ashl.ca by October 15th!

If you’d like, here are some hints re completing the registration: page 1:
skip the survey; page 4: go to Winnipeg Highlander for location; League:
Winter 2008 Soccer; Team # to pull up our team name – 9271. Jersey #: put zero if don’t know, then change it later. Last few questions on page:
about hockey-put whatever you want, it doesn’t matter.

2. PLAYER CARDS

We all need new cards. There is no cost for the cards, but they must be used at every game. No card, no play. After registering at www.ashl.ca, as soon as possible afterwards head down to Canlan (the
Highlander) to get your player card. You will have your picture taken there (nude=extra $5) and will need to sign the finalinsurance forms in person. Canlan has asked players try to come down well before their first game. At minimum, arrive 1 hour prior to needing the card. If you do that, expect a lineup.

We’ll collect the cards at the practice, and, if necessary, at the first game.

The cards have a
unique feature that track purchases upstairs in the bar, and award points and prizes. So we should do pretty well. We’re thinking we use only one card for all purchases (maybe Paul’s card) so we can keep the team’s cards together, don’t lose track of the cards, and the whole team can share in the rewards.

3. PRACTICE Wednesday October 15, at 9:30pm

James has arranged for the gym at Westgate (86 West Gate) for our practice, collection of fees, etc. Dave Epp will be giving thorough physicals to all players, and Paul Skinner will tell us stuff we don’t know.

4. FEES

Bring moola to the practice, or to Dan or I before. We have to pay the team fees in full prior to the first game. (Canlan can also be paid directly, but don’t everybody pay direct to Canlan, as Dan has already been kind enough to fork over the first grand, so we need some money in cash or cheques, eh?)

5. SCHEDULE and First games

Under normal circumstances, we will be playing Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays with the odd Friday thrown in. Our first game will be the week of October 19th. Schedule will be released this Friday the 10th, and available at http://www.icesports.com/Winnipeg_IndoorSoccer.ashx?lang=en . So we’ll know by the practice.

Finally, remember, even though we are from entirely different species, and, I, in fact, am a giant space slug, I am still attracted to you.
