Summer is here and there are lots of ways to keep in good field hockey form over the next few months! Please see details below:

Sailors Drop-In on Tuesdays
The Sailors field hockey club are excited to host another summer season of co-ed drop-in. All participants must be registered under Field Hockey BC and must be 14 years of age or older.

When: 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays
Dates: July 9, 16, 23, 30; Aug 6, 13, 20 and 27
Where: UVic Field 1
Cost: $5 per session (cash upon arrival)

Rebels Drop-In on Thursdays
The Rebels Club will be hosting its regular summer drop-in sessions on Thursday evenings on the turf at UVic. All participants must be registered under Field Hockey BC. Participants under 14 years need a parent or guardian present.

When: 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays
Dates: July 4, 11, 18, 25; Aug 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29
Location: UVic Field 1
Cost: $5 per session or $35 for the whole summer

Cowichan T-Birds Field Hockey Camp: July 2-5
The Senior Cowichan Field Hockey team along with their coaches are proud to be able to provide a field hockey camp for ages 6-14 year olds. Everyone welcome! No experience necessary. Camp runs from July 2-5, 2019. More info in attached brochure.

Tigers Kids Camp: July 9-Aug 13
Victoria Tigers Field Hockey Club annual Kids Camp runs from July 9-August 13, 2019. For boys and girls ages 4-16. Visit www.victoriatigers.com for more details.

August Lake n Bake – Kelowna
This August Long weekend (Aug 3-4) join the Lake n Bake in Kelowna for some social summer co-ed field hockey…with a few wine tours as well. Please let Cara Jay know if you are interested cara.jay.71@gmail.com

September Westerly Tournament – Nanaimo
Get a good September start for women’s (19+) social field hockey with the Westerly tournament in Nanaimo (Sept 7-8). Cost is $300 per team, due by August 1, 2019. For more information contact Eiko Eby at eikoeby@shaw.ca.

Team Canada Opportunities
Team Canada is looking for men and women over 35 to represent Canada. The world Cup locations have been announced for 2020. Over 35 and o40 tournaments are in England. Over 45s, o50, o55, & o60 tournaments are in South Africa. The Grand Masters o60 is in Japan. Please register at: http://www.fieldhockey.ca/mastersform/. This is a self funded fun field hockey event with countries represented all over the world!

On April 9 the Vancouver Island Ladies Field Hockey Association (VILFHA) awarded the league trophies, major awards and all-star team acknowledgements. Lynx 1’s Libby Hogg (pictured) earned the Trelawney Shield for being the Most Outstanding Under 18 Player. Demon’s Theresa Kennedy took home the Hibbert Trophy for being the most outstanding player in the association. Mariners goalie Larissa Piva was awarded the Christine Trophy for her ability, sportsmanship and service to the association. For the second straight year, Mariners’ umpire Nora Struchtrup was presented the Foley Shield for her umpire performances this season.

Mariners were the playoff winners for Division 1, while the Sailors won in Division 2. The Stellers were playoff champions for Division 3. VILFHA is saddened to hear of the passing of Henry Lenaghan, a tremendous supporter of women’s field hockey. Henry was a skilled field hockey player and umpire. He was devoted to training, mentoring and encouraging field hockey umpires, and especially cherished by FHBC for his devotion to the game. Our thoughts are with Henry’s family and friends.
