Penn Rugby 7s Tryout

Posted by University of Pennsylvania Rugby on Mar 09 2016 at 02:13PM PST

On Wednesday March 16 the University of Pennsylvania Men’s Rugby program will be running an open tryout for this Spring’s Rugby 7s team.

Rugby in the USA is at an exciting point in its development, it is the fastest growing team sport in the country, the USA Eagles Rugby 7s team has qualified and is a contender for a medal in the Rio Olympics and an American Pro Rugby league is about to start its inaugural season this April. Penn Rugby is searching out athletes who wish to jump on this wave and try their hand at a new sport.

This event is part of the ongoing effort to identify and recruit athletes who can help the team compete at the highest level possible in the coming years and at the same time attract top athletes into the sport. USA Rugby has been very successful in identifying crossover athletes from other backgrounds to compete in their Rugby 7s programs, the highest profile being Carlin Isles and Perry Baker. Penn rugby is simply taking a similar approach as we are aware there are many athletes at the university; whether finishing up their varsity careers in other programs or not currently involved in sport who are out there and could make excellent rugby players.

Just as importantly the evaluation will also provide the current squad of players a chance to test themselves and start establishing performance indicators for themselves. This process which is new to the program is key in establishing an environment of continuous improvement among our team members, whether their goal is to play a higher level after college or simply move up from the development team at Penn to the 1st team.

All interested athletes are welcome to attend all it takes is to fill out the form linked below and to present yourself at Franklin Field at 745PM on Wednesday March 16.
