News and Announcements

The VISL Board of Directors hereby gives notice of intent to amend/update the Constitution of the VISL. The Constitution is out of date and has not been updated for quite some time. Most of these changes are minor wording changes, however, there are a few that are more substantial…

Article 5 Duties of Officers

4. replace “President and/or the Vice-President and Treasurer” with “any two of the following: President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Past President.”

6. Replace the whole sentence with “Auditors may be appointed by the executive. If auditors are appointed by the executive, they shall provide their audit report prior to the annual general meeting.”

Please note the first change is changing the cheque signing authorization to what is current at the bank & the second change makes it a decision of the executive to have an audit done, not a requirement as currently an audit is not done as it would cost $10-20,000 to have an audit done each year.

Also, Articles 6-9 have been removed from the bylaws (previously voted on and accepted by the Members) and added to the handbook so that they could be amended at the board level and not just at an AGM (per Article 10).

Please review all the proposed changes by going to the website main page…clicking on Resources…then Documents…and choosing Constitution Draft…once the document is open click Markup under the View tab to see all the changes.

The Board of Directors will bring forward a motion to accept these changes at the AGM on May 26, 2014.

VISL Cup Finals

Posted by Vince Greco at Mar 31, 2014 7:06AM PDT ( 2 Comments )

A year came to a close with several loud bangs this past weekend.
Some great soccer at RAP this weekend, with 3 of 4 games being very close. The Jackson Cup game needing 120’ to decide a Champion.

Masters Tony Grover Cup was won by Gorge FC Backfit with a 2-0 win over Gordon Head Old School.

George Pearkes Challenge Cup was won by Vantreight Div 3 with a 2-1 win over Fernwood Town Div 4.

George Smith U-21 Cup was won by Mid Isle Highlanders with a 5-0 win over Lakehill.

The Sir John Jackson Cup was won by Saanich Fusion with a 1-0 win over Cowichan FC.

Great turnouts for the game, excellent sportsmanship by all teams, quality officiating in all games, and some nice weather.

A great weekend for all involved in the VISL. Congrats to all teams.

McGavin Cup Final & Div 4 Playoff Cup Final

Posted by Vince Greco at Mar 12, 2014 3:13PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

2 Finals on the same day – Saturday March 22/2014 at Braefoot Turf.

The Division 4 Playoff Cup trophy

Gorge Us-Guys 4A vsCastaways Invicta 4C

Gorge wins on pks

The McGavin Cup Final

Saanich Fusion Div 2 vs Lakehill Reds Teamsales Div 1

Lakehill wins on pks.

To clarify – new players to the VISL (guys that did not play last year) have a 1 game grace period to get their ID card in order. They can play without their ID card if they bring photo ID and if 2 copies of the player registration are given to the referee before the start of the game.
If it is a returning player – he needs to bring his ID card. No ID card = no play. EXCEPTION – if you have been going through any of the Team Pages registration experience, you may have noticed some glitches this past week. Fraser & Cees have been working hard to try to sort it out – with direction from Derek at Team Pages. The issue is still not ironed out, and some players are not even getting an ID # attached to their player card. Some player cards cannot print out with the ID #’s on them, some are being printed out in a weird format.
Bottom line, if you could not get a card today from Lori at the soccer office (who was on fire and did a ton of cards for people) and it was because of a computer glitch, send us an email with your team name, the player name, and we will give the OK for that player if he was registered properly. This will not be allowed for people who did not register on time – strictly computer glitches on the website. Lori was able to get to all cards that were handed in by 6 pm today – so anything afterwards – the exception does not apply to.

Thanks to those who had the patience to hang out at the soccer office and wait for their cards as well as listen to some people over react, whine, swear, and leave in a huff.

Registration problems – Update 3
Posted by Vancouver Island Soccer League on Sep 04 2013 at 12:26PM PDT .More editing options
In order to ensure Managers / Admins log in to the website before proceeding into the Online Registration area, you will not see the links on the left side of the page UNTIL you do.

To avoid delays, please ensure you log in to the TeamPages home page before starting your online registration. Once logged in go to Online Registration and enter your password or the one provided for you for your team. You will find this will reduce a lot of frustration and allow you to get your players registered quickly.(Monday 9th)

Some older versions of Internet Explorer may not allow for the drop down boxes to show when registering players therefore not allowing you to choose the player for your team. In this case download Google Chrome, log in and try again.(Friday)
I have been in contact with Team Pages and run through some registrations for different teams. The fixes they applied this morning appear to have cleaned up the problems that existed with the roll over from last year and removed the conflicts with ID’s and players remaining on rosters.
If problems persist, please email me at frsim@shaw.ca or text me at 250-886-0339 (please do not phone as this is a work cell) and let me know what problem you are having.
