The Lions Baseball team had many young players moving up to the varsity level this year. With one senior graduating, the team reached their potential and had a good season. The team represented CDA well in their district by placing several players on the All-District Team. The players are mentioned as follows:
Matthew McKee and Andrew Kuykendall made First Team All-District. They also made Academic All-State.
Earning Second Team All-District were Ben Kuykendall, Caleb Hobbs, Gray Prewitt, and Justin Henderson.
Making Honorable Mention was David Scott and Hunter Harms.
Ben Kuykendall was selected as Freshman of the Year by the coaches in the district.
We are very proud of these young men and their accomplishments. Great job!
The CDA Ladies softball team had a great season this year from a four year hiatus. We were certainly glad to have them back as part of our CDA Athletic program. These girls competed extremely well for being a very young team. So we were very proud of their hard work and valiant effort on the field. They represented our school well with some valuable recognition throughout the district. This year’s district honors go to:
Georgia Roberts and Sloane Hawkins for achieving First team All-District and Kayleigh Moore achieving Second team All-District.
Georgia Roberts was also named Pitcher of the Year in the district.
We are very proud of these girls and their season of success. Great job to them and their coaches. We look forward to another great season!

Varsity Track & Field Ends the CDA 2012-2013 Year with a ROAR!!!!
It has been a great year for CDA athletics as the varsity track and field team concluded the season with a loud ROAR!!! Eight members of the CDA varsity track and field team advanced to the TAPPS state meet held in Waco at the Hart-Patterson Track & Field Complex at Baylor University May 10th and 11th.
CDA pole vaulter Colette Harris started scoring for the team Friday morning with a jump of 10’6", matching her personal best and earning her silver in the TAPPS 3A ladies pole vaulting event.
Saturday was a day for the runners and CDA came ready to race. Laina Ewoldt started off the day for CDA with personal best time in the 800m and a state championship win, earning her first gold of the day. Freshman Trey McCalley had a great run in the 800m run; wearing the CDA 800m boys’ “trademark” argyle socks, placing fifth at the state meet.
Hurdler Graham Day, in one of his three races of the day, brought home the bronze in the 110m men’s hurdles. His strong 300m hurdles race earned him a fourth place finish at the state meet.
Laina Ewoldt returned to the track for the 1600m and left no doubt she was racing for the win. Laina not only brought home her second gold of the day, she broke the TAPPS 3A 1600m meet record held since 2007.
Wrapping up the season, the men’s 4 × 440 meter team of David Wilson, Graham Day, Luke Black, Charles Clinkscale had an outstanding race, finishing fourth in a very fast race at the state meet. Alternate Joey Saldivar trained all week with the relay team and traveled to Waco to substitute, if needed. Joey has been a vital part of the relay team. All the CDA athletes in this race will be returning next year, so we are excited to see what the 2014 season will bring for this group!
And, with that final event, the 2012-2013 CDA athletic season comes to an end. We give thanks to God always for the ability and opportunity to compete. All praise and glory be TO HIM.
