The LCC men’s lacrosse team has announced their 2016 spring schedule. The Mavericks are coming off a 14-9 record and a CIF-San Diego Division 1 Championship. LCC returns the majority of their team from a year ago. Those players, now juniors and seniors, are battle tested and ready to make their mark on the strong tradition of LCC lacrosse. Returning senior standouts include Jake McLean, Michael Rice, and Jack Kagan which will lead an explosive offense. The defense will feature seniors and returning starters in Pierce Maczko, Crew Taylor, and Daniel Verga.

2016 will feature several new opponents to this year’s schedule including Woodlands and St. Marks from Texas. Woodlands finished 2015 with a 17-3 record and the runner-up in the Texas state championship. The schedule also features Northern California powers; St. Ignatius and Bellarmine Prep. St. Ignatius is coming off the best season ever by a west coast school. In 2015, the Wildcats finished with an 18-1 record and #5 in the nation. The Mavericks haven’t played St. Ignatius since 2010 and the series is tied at 2-2 since first playing in 2004. Regis Jesuit and Wheat Ridge are strong programs from Colorado that continue to stay on the schedule. Regis Jesuit finished 2015 with a 16-3 record and the runner-up in the Colorado state championship.

The schedule is also highlighted by the top three Orange County/Los Angeles teams from 2015. Foothill-Santa Ana, St. Margaret’s Episcopal, and Corona Del Mar went a combined a 59-6 and were the #2, #3, and #4 ranked teams in California. The regular season will also feature the top programs in San Diego. Cathedral Catholic, the Bishop’s School, Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Torrey Pines, and Coronado will all pose great challenges and be a preview to the possible CIF-San Diego playoff picture.

The season begins on Wednesday, March 9th at LCC against Carlsbad High School. The Varsity schedule is available on www.lccmenslacrosse.com under documents.
