Honorary Captain Chosen

Posted by Steven Kirk at Oct 1, 2011 10:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The 97 X-treme girls voted on Saturday morning on the fourth and final captain. The Coaching staff had nominated Lena and Emily C as the two that the team could vote on. The Honorary Captain is voted each season by the players themselves, with the nominees being chosen by the coaching staff. The Nominee’s have to have been a captain in a season in the past. In an extremely close vote (8-7), Lena became the Fall 2011 Season Honorary Captain. Great Job to both Ladies, and congrats to Lena. Emily will be eligible for the Spring Season honorary captain’s role, and will fill in this season if any captain is not at a game or practice. Lena joins Ashley, Morgan K, and Briana as the Fall 2011 Season Team Captains. LETS GO X-TREME!!!

X-Treme 97 Add new Goal Keeping Coach

Posted by Steven Kirk at Jul 19, 2011 6:18AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The X-Treme 97 welcomes our newest addition to the Coaching Staff, Brandon Walker. Brandon will be filling in the role as the Goal Keeper Coach/Asst Coach.
Coach Steve has known Coach Walker since he was 4 years old, and he played soccer together since the age of 8 until they graduated High School. Coach Walker was our Goal Keeper on one of the High School teams that won the State. He is very dedicated like Coach Steve and this is a HUGE asset to our team.

Below is a short Bio from Coach Walker, and Welcome Aboard. We are excited to have you.

_Brandon Walker has been playing soccer since the age of 4. He has played many positions both in recreational leagues, travel leagues and ODP. He was named to both State and National All Tournament Teams while a player in High School. Brandon played goalkeeper through his high school and college career. Since his graduation from college Brandon has coached several teams at many levels. He started his coaching career, coaching a boys and girls private high school team in Prince William County. He later started coaching in Spotsylvania County where he coached both the boys and girls Middle School teams as well as a U10 girls travel team and two U10 girls recreation league teams. Brandon has since left his coaching duties in Spotsylvania County and taken more of a one on one coaching approach with several of his previous players. He has spent the last year evaluating players both in practices and games (both goalkeepers and field players), providing them one on one insight and development and working closely with these players on achieving a better understanding of the game and skill development. Brandon has his National “C” coaching license and is looking forward to advancing his licensing and obtaining his National Goalkeeper certification as well. _

Just to recap Coach Walkers role, He will be running a training session during one of the two practices weekly for our Goal Keeper only. He will also be attending all games and coaching our Goal Keeper during the game and providing valuable insight to her after the game. He will also be responsible to warm her up and make sure she is ready for the game. If One of the other coaches are out on vacation or out sick, he will Assist the other Coach while they run the practice. If he wants, he can come to any other team practice session and assit Coach Kim and Coach Steve, or run a second practice session with the goal keeper or any other girls who would like to learn some goal keeper techniques.

Again, Welcome Aboard Coach Walker
