SportsMX/NDIAA April 2015 Athletes of the Month

SportsMX and National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association (NDIAA) are proud to present the monthly “SportsMX/NDIAA Athletes of the Month” awards. The purpose of this the award is to recognize High School athletes across the country who have made significant impact on their teams not just on the field but in academics, leadership, and character as well.

Our young Deaf athletes deserve recognition for their dedication and hard work. SportsMX and NDIAA congratulate Austin Silva-Wynne on his selection as one of the “SportsMX/NDIAA Athletes of the Month” for April 2015!

Austin Sliva-Wynne
Texas School for the Deaf

Grade: Junior
Position: Pitcher & Shortstop

The Texas baseball team’s return to the Hoy tournament had a “Hollywood” feel to it with Austin in the starring role. Austin hit a three-run homerun in the final inning of the semifinals to break a tie and defeat Indiana. In the championship game against Model, Austin dominated in six innings with 17 strikeouts and allowing one hit. In the final inning, Austin delivered once again making a tag at home for the final out in the game as a catcher. Austin’s heroics at the Hoy tournament earned him a much-deserved MVP award. Austin ended the season with a 4-1 record as a pitcher with 53 strikeouts in 21.2 innings pitched with an ERA of 1.62. He also led the team with a .636 batting average and four homeruns.

“Austin is a “one of a kind” baseball player. Despite his amazing statistics, he is not only just a great ball player but also a true leader of his team by providing positive support and feedback to his teammates. It’s a thrill to know that he is currently a junior. It will be fun to watch him play again next year.” – Texas Athletic Director Chris Hamilton
