Tonight we played Calvary Christian. They were our first game of the season in which we won by 6 in double over time. We came out a little flat and they went on a 6-0 run but after a quick time out we surged back to be up 14-10 after the first quarter. We continued much of the same in the second quarter pulling out of 2/3 after a missed basket and sticking with our full court man and things seemed to work as we headed into the half with at least a 7 point lead. After the half the tide changed quite rapidly. They changed up there defense to have one guy on Brendon who was quick and kept him scoreless in the second half. They also put a rover at the top which effectivley to Dan out of the game as well. After a bit of miss fortune on the defensive end we ended up in foul trouble with Alec fouling out of the game after sitting out most of the second half. Alex and Mike Perry really stepped up on offense and contributed when we really needed them. Mike Coo also came in and played some tough defense when foul trouble forced him into a key role in the game. We ended up losing by 20 and giving Calvary there first win of the season. So looking back at the game and reflecting on why we lost, I initially blamed the refs who did not call a great game (no one is arguing that point) and put Calvary to the line with 17 fouls against us to 6 on them. They shot over 50% in the second half from the line which gave them a push and caused us to have to back off. But when I look back at the real determing factor, I have decided that the other team made incredible adjustments coming out in the second half and took our two main scorers out of the game and rather then recognizing it and trying to get the ball into other hands to loosen up the defense on them we (coach included) kept trying to force it. So what can we learn. We need to spread the ball around more. Work both sides of the floor and not rely on two guys so much.

One awesome thing from tonights game was the amount of integrity my guys played the game. Even though we all felt that the refs were calling a bad game, everyone kept there heads and represented Christ well tonight. So in the eternal picture we can chalk it up to a win tonight, a win in the game of eternity.
