Post 98 Announces coaching staff for 2010 season

Merrimack Post 98 names Junior Legion Baseball coaching staff for 2010 season. The Head Coach for Post 98 is Cliff Hicks. Hicks is a local resident playing for the Merrimack Youth Baseball, Mastricola Middle School and Merrimack High School baseball programs. Coach Hicks played varsity baseball for Merrimack HS from 2002 – 2004 where he was named All-State and All-Area player for 2 years. After graduating from Merrimack HS in 2004, coach Hicks attended Franklin Pierce University from 2004-2009. As a 4 year player at Pierce, playing 3B and CF, Hicks was named Northeast-10All Conference Second team in 2009, led the NE-10 in stolen bases and was team captain. Hicks was an integral cog of a Ravens squad that won 3 Northeast Regional championships, 3 NE-10 Conference Championships and 3 bids to the NCAA D-II tournament. Coach Hicks received his undergraduate degree in Business Management in 2008 and is currently completing his MBA in Leadership and Human Resource Management from Franklin Pierce Graduate School. Coach Hicks brings a wealth of experience and excitement to the baseball program. He resides in Merrimack.

Assistant Coach Mike Driscoll has coached numerous Merrimack Youth Association sports including several years of Little League, Cal Ripken, and Babe Ruth baseball. Coach Driscoll was the assistant varsity baseball coach at Merrimack High School high school, head coach for Legion Post 98, for 5 years and an assistant baseball coach for 6 years at the Merrimack Mastricola Middle school in Merrimack, NH. Mike brings a wealth of knowledge to the program and will focus on pitching. He has resided in Merimack NH since 1979.

Coach Mick Gasper, a resident of Merrimack since 2001, has been a varsity baseball coach in New Jersey. Since moving to NH he has coached numerous recreation and all-star youth teams. His most recent team, the Merrimack Cal Ripken all-stars, won four consecutive state championships from 2005-2008. Last season he became the assistant baseball coach at MMS. He is also the manager of the 14U NH Timbercats AAU baseball team.
Coach Gasper has also been a varsity basketball head coach in both NJ and NH. For the past 6 years he has held the 8th grade head coaching position at MMS, and for the past two seasons, he has been the assistant basketball coach for Tim Goodridge’s Merrimack varsity. Coach Gasper will use his vast coaching skills, baseball knowledge and leadership experience while working with young players.

There will be an information night for all players wishing to try out for Post 98 Jr Legion Baseball program on Sunday Jan 31, 2:00pm at Post 98, 43 Baboosic Lake Road in Merrimack. The meeting will provide information for the 2010 season and an opportunity for players and parents to meet the coaching staff.
