ARDMORE — The season came to a close for the Deer Creek boy’s basketball team Friday night in Ardmore. The Antlers, who finished the regular season strong, couldn’t keep it going as they lost to No. 14-ranked Lawton MacArthur 68-60 in the first round of the Class 5A West Regional Tournament.
Garrett Hermanski led the Antlers with 19 points, Jurrell Calloway was also in double figures with 12 points and senior Hayden Wagner kicked in nine.
Deer Creek (12-12) fell behind early as Lawton Mac jumped to a 20-11 lead at the end of the first. The Antlers came back in the second and made it a five-point game at halftime as they trailed 33-28.
Things got even closer in the second half as the Antlers scored 19 points in the third to make it a 51-47 contest. But the hopes for an upset fell apart in the final eight minutes of the game and the Highlanders held on for the win.
