@ Camelback High School 5 March In a tuneup meet before Saturday's encounter with the other Mesa School and 15 other 4A's, the PC distance runners set 14 personal bests, Sam Ledford 20'3" and Eric Perez (21'7") place 1-2 in the long jump as the Cougars get the season of to a great start. Competing against 5A competition (over 2100 students), the tone was set with a 4 x 800 win capped by Brant Frazee's rundown of Kofa & Skyline runners. Frazze would return later to place second in the 1600. Tom Ness was 5th. The boy's 400meter relay of Sam Ledford, Nate Huss, Danny Lazerri and Jeff Burns won that event with a time of 45.2. Huss returned later to run a 51 split on the 4x400 (2nd). Huss, Burns & Lazerri placed in the top 6 in the 100, in the open 400, Mike Stahl placed 3rd. In the hurdles, Matt Kredit placed 3rd in the highs. Josh Schlueter (45.4), Matt Kredit (46.22) and Micah Kuiper placed 2nd, 4th & 6th in the low hurdles. Frazee capped off a great 1st day by placing 2nd in the 800. Robinson was 5th. Lazerri was 4th in the 200 and Ness was 3rd in the 3200. For the girls, Kristen Shook and rookie Anita Bunney placed 4th & 5th in the 1600. Shook was also3rd in the 800. Michelle Stewart was 3rd in her first ever 400. CY Speck had a good day as she placed 2nd in the long jump (14'8") and was 2nd in the high jump. The girls were outscored by Skyline and Kofa, but beat Camelback scoring 20 points to their 16.
