Tournament Bracket

First, a sincere thank you to all the boys who came out over the last three days and gave an inspired effort at tryouts. I told the boys on Tuesday that this is both my favorite and least-favorite time of year – making the roster decisions is never easy for me because we have so many talented players, who also happen to be good kids and fun to be around. The process is tough for me personally, too, as I do not take the responsibility lightly. In the end, these roster decisions are based on our ability to put the team on the field that gives us the best chance for success, with the best mix of offense (including speed and base running), defense, and pitching we can get. There were some very close decisions and I expect some will second-guess here and there. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this, I hope you will call or email me directly. Thanks again to all the boys for coming out and taking the process seriously.

The Little League District 9 All-star tournaments begin soon, with baseball and softball tournaments for the Majors (11-12), 10-11 and 9-10 year old levels.  Mercer Island will be fielding the following teams:

• Majors (11-12YO) Baseball
• 11YO Baseball
• 9-10YO Baseball
• Majors (11-12YO) Softbal (combined team with Bellevue East and Bellevue Thunderbird)
• 9-10YO Softball

11YO girls from MI Little League will be playing with Bellevue Thunderbird LL on a combined 11YO Softball all-star team.

Because the age groups overlap, some players may be eligible for either a higher or lower age level.  In general, our league policy is that all players should play at the lowest level for which they are eligible.  However, in certain cases, players may be invited to tryout or play for the higher level team.  Our objective is to field the most competitive team(s) possible at the highest level possible, and therefore a few outstanding 11YOs may be invited to tryout for the 11-12 Majors all-star team. 

Players who have been selected as all-star candidates will be posted on Sunday, June 15 (per LL rules), along with the Managers (head coaches) of each of the 5 teams Mercer Island is entering in the District 9 tournament.  Those Managers will be contact the all-star candidates on or after June 15th regarding the tryout/practice schedule.  Following the first few practices, those managers will select the final roster of players who will participate in the district tournaments.
