FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q -Why can't I mail my registration in like in past seasons?

A - PVGSL has slowly been moving to an automated registration system for some time now. Most other leagues have been doing this for several seasons now and it makes registration move smoothly with less errors.

Q - How do I determine which age group my daughter should be registered for?

A - It is based on your daughter's age as of January 1 of the current year.  For example, if she's 8 on January 1, she can play in 6-8U for both Spring and Fall seasons of that year, even though she'll turn 9 during the year.  If she's 9 on January 1, she'll play in the 10U division for both Spring and Fall seasons.

Q - When do the seasons begin and end?

A -Spring practices begin in early February. Games begin at the mid-February and continue through mid-May.  Fall practices begin at the end of August.  Games begin at the end of September and continue through mid-November.  See the Calendar tab for specific dates.

Q - What days and times are the games and practices held?

A - Games and practices are typically held twice a week, Monday - Thursday nights. Each week is different based on the schedule that your team gets assigned. One week you could play Monday and Wednesday and the next week you could play Tuesday and Thursday. Game times would be 6:00 pm for the younger divisions and 7:30 pm for the older divisions. Most teams will have their players arrive 30-45 minutes prior to game time for warm up.

Q - Where are the games and practices held?

A - PVGSL utilizes several fields for games and practices such as Roadrunner Park, Sereno Park and Desert Shadows Middle School. Please see the Locations tab for addresses and maps.

Q -My daughter played last season but doesn't want to be on the same team this season.  Can she be on a DIFFERENT team?

A- Yes! There are many reasons to try a new team. When you register, please indicate in the additional comment section that your daughter does NOT want to be on a certain team or with a certain coach and we will do our best to put your daughter on a different team.

Q -My daughter played last season and really wants to be on the same team this season.   Can she be on the SAME team?

A- Yes! There are many reasons for playing with the same team or coach as last season. When you register, please indicate that your daughter wants to be with a certain player or coach and we will do our best to put your daughter with them. We suggest that you register as early as possible because we can only honor team or coach requests for a short time before we have to fill the rosters with other players.

Q - I signed my daughter up as soon as registration opened but now it's a month later and she does not want to play this season.  Can I get a refund?

A - Yes, partially.  The processing fee charged by the website is not refundable.  Your registration fee will be refunded in full up until one week before the start of games because at that time t-shirts are ordered for all players.  Prorated refunds may be available after the start of games.

Q - Do I need to purchase a uniform for my daughter?

A - PVGSL will be providing each player with a team shirt and socks.  At the start of the season your coach will give you more information on whether the players can wear shorts or will need baseball pants, and also whether cleats (rubber, not metal) are required or optional.

Q - What equipment is required?

A - A batting helmet with mask is required for each player.  Chin straps are no longer required on helmets.  It's best for each player to have a bat and glove although some teams have equipment that can be shared.  Catcher's gear is provided by the league.  Cleats (rubber, not metal)  are not required although coaches may recommend them.

Q - Other than the time of year, are there any differences between Fall and Spring seasons?

A - Yes.  Spring season is a bit longer than Fall season and has more league events.  Spring season begins with Opening Ceremonies and picture day, and ends with Closing Ceremonies and a league tournament.   Fall season has fewer weeks of practices and games, with no Opening or Closing Ceremonies and no league tournament.   Fall season is a great time to see if your daughter enjoys the sport and wants to continue in the Spring.  But you don't have to sign up for Fall season first, your daughter can start in either the Fall or the Spring.

Q - Do you offer discounts for multiple players from the same family or for returning players?

A - Unfortunately we are not able to offer discounts of this type.  The fee charged for each player covers the cost of their team shirt, field lights, umpires, etc.  The league is staffed entirely by volunteers and makes no profit on the fees charged or sponsorship money received, putting all funds back into the league to provide an enjoyable experience for all players.

Q - I'm interested in coaching a team and/or volunteering.  Who should I contact?

A - Great!  The league is always in need of volunteers and coaches.  Please email pvgsl_registration@yahoo.com and provide your contact information so we can reach out you.
