The PeeWee B Outlaws played 3 games this past weekend, their first was a road game in St. Thomas on Friday night. Chatham lost to St. Thomas 2 – 0 in exhibition earlier in the season, so they would have their work cut out.
Chatham looked to be the better team in the early going but could not bury some early chances. St. Thomas however, managed to get a friendly bounce and scored a goal to go up 1 – 0 at the end of the 1st . Chatham did not back down and actually turned it up a notch and their pressure resulted in the tying goal. Brooke Foster fired a shot toward the Panther net and Alyssa Coutts kept the rebound alive. A goal mouth scramble ensued and Ally Oulds kept digging at the puck and eventually laying flat on her stomach in the goal mouth she reached out and somehow got her stick on the loose puck to tuck it home. It was a great individual effort that got the Outlaws fired up. With the game tied at 1 going into the 3rd period, Chatham’s pressure and fast pace began to wear down the Panthers and Lauren Ouimet corralled a puck at the blue line and passed it to Alyssa Coutts who managed to find Haley Smith cutting up the middle slot to the Panther net. Smith split a pair of St. Thomas defenders and roofed a wrist shot past the Panther goalie to put Chatham up 2 – 1. With time running down, St. Thomas pulled their goalie to gain an extra attacker. Chatham continued to swarm the puck , not even allowing St. Thomas out of their own end and with only seconds left Shayna Daly fired home and empty netter, a reward for some aggressive forechecking. The 3 – 1 win was one of Chatham’s better efforts of the season.

On Sunday, the Outlaws welcomed the Stratford Aces to town for a double header at Memorial arena. The first game at 9:30am would see if Stratford was awake yet from their early morning drive in. Both teams looked a little sluggish and sloppy, as the action was mainly between the blue lines with neither side generating much offence. The game remained a stalemate going into the 3rd period. Midway through the 3rd, Chatham got the break they needed, as a too many men on the ice penalty put Chatham on the power play. With the play in the Aces end, Chatham set up their power play and Shayna Daly fed a pass to Kate Brady who drove to the Stratford net. Her shot was stopped but the rebound was scooped up by Abi Hansen who promptly buried the go ahead goal. With time running out in the third and the Stratford net empty, Chatham held strong and ran out the clock to pick up their second victory of the weekend. Larissa McFadden played strong in the Chatham net earning her 5th shutout of the year.Chatham PeeWee B Outlaws 1 Goal : Abi Hansen (Dutton) Assists : Kate Brady (Chatham), Shayna Daly (Chatham)

The afternoon game would be a rematch between the 2 evenly matched teams, with Chatham looking to complete the weekend sweep. The game was much like their earlier bout with both sides battling back and forth in the tightly knitted affair. Neither side could gain any advantage or get the break they needed. The Stratford goalie denied many Chatham chances and Larissa McFadden, Chatham’s goalie matched her save for save. With the game winding down in the 3rd and the game deadlocked at zeroes, Chatham mounted a last gasp attack and came oh so close to getting the winning goal, but had to settle for the 0 – 0 tie.Larissa McFadden earned her 6th shut out of the season and 2nd on the weekend. Chatham’s defence allowed only 1 goal in 3 games on the weekend while gaining 2 wins and a tie. Chatham has the least amount of goals against in their division at this stage of the season.
