VRSC Championship Finals and announcements

Posted by Marian McKee on May 21 2010 at 05:42AM PDT

Tomorrow’s VSRC Championship Finals marks the final regatta of the season for Langley Crew. We have 3 boats racing for the Virginia state championship. You will find the race schedule under ‘Regatta Central’. The entire team is expected to come out for Saturday’s races to cheer on the Women’s Lightweight 8 and 2nd Varsity 4 and the Men’s Lightweight 4 in their heats. Let’s bring home some hardware, Saxons!

Coxswains should be there by 7:45 am at the latest (meeting is at 8) and lightweights should be there by 8 to weigh in. The Women’s 2nd 4+ should be there by 9. Check with your coach for any last minute updates on arrival times.

The shuttle from Silverbrook starts at 8:45 and will end 1 hour after the last race on Saturday. Parking will be at a premium on Saturday since teams come from all over the area with trailers, tents, and their own fans. Review the notes from the May 8 regatta regarding offsite parking and shuttles.

Per Coach Fanny’s email earlier this week, please remember, during the regatta Saturday, the people running for captain will address the team, explaining why they wish to be elected. At the end of the day, before we leave, the team members will vote to elect next year’s captain. If you do not attend the regatta Saturday, you will not be able to vote. Next years captains will be announced at the end of year picnic on June 6th.

Our last race is 12:24, so hopefully we will be all wrapped up with everything by 1:30pm, for all those eager to get ready for prom!

A couple of administrative notes-

The end of season picnic and awards will be held at the Occoquan on June 6 from noon until 4 PM. This is a pot luck BBQ. Food assignments will be sent out in the next week or so. Mark your calendars and plan to attend this annual event where we celebrate the team’s successes, announce next year’s captains, and bid adieu to our Seniors. The new Board of Directors will also be elected at this time.

The next several Saturdays will be clean up days at Sandy Run. Look for an announcement from Bryan Clark about clean up times and tasks for Langley Crew.

We will be posting a survey for both athletes and parents to complete early next week. Your feedback on the season is valuable, so please take the time to complete the survey. Similar surveys completed by the athletes last season were instrumental in planning for this season. To get a more complete view of the crew experience, we are including the parents in the survey this year. Your candor is appreciated.

Parents, are you interested in having a more active role in Langley Crew? Our team is run by a Board of Directors. Participating on the board is a great way to become more involved and help shape the club. If you are interested in being a part of this dynamic group, please contact Suzanne McGrath (suzemgreatfalls@aol.com). You can read more about the Board under the ‘Langley Crew Booster Club (LCBC)’ link on the left of this page.

As always, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns(cmbhp@aol.com)
