Boys
As in years past the Boys camp will have a cap of 90 players for each level. I currently have 6 boys trying to join summer league because paperwork was not in on time. In the past we have had 3 summer league teams, but this year we will only have two because of the registrations that took place in Decemeber. Please sign up early for the camp to get your spot. The camp is one of the main fundraisers for the soccer program.
Girls
Coach Ponce will be emailing some information out about the girls camp in the near future.
Today, I received free access codes to an ACT test prep program. This program would usually cost around 130.00, but it is free with the code. Most juniors take the ACT at the start of their junior year to get a baseline. This test prep will prepare them for this exam.
This is something that should be done once a week until summer starts then atleast 2-3 times a week. The program will cover all content areas of the exam. If you have an older child that you would like this for please have your child ask me for an additional access code and booklet. I can not email codes your child has to come see me to get the code and booklet.
I have a limited number of these free test prep access codes.

Striker/OPRF One Families,
We are looking for interested players (and parents) who want the opportunity to become a center referee or an assistant referee (linesmen). It is a great way to earn money while participating in an activity you love. New referees will be mentored on the field by our experienced adult referees.
Strikers is sponsoring 3 separate licensing clinics March 17-18 at Oak Park River Forest High School. There is a 2 day session for those wishing to become center referees and/or ARs (Grade 8), a 1 day session for those who wish to be ARs (Grade 12) and a 1 day licensing renewal class for our current referees.
All referees must attend a certification clinic each year and pass a written exam in order to work OPRF Striker games. There is a USSF license fee and a clinic course fee that must be paid each year. We will reimburse all players who are 18 or younger for their clinic fee after they complete 8 games (1 time only). If you are 18 or older you must have a background check completed in order to work Striker games (this is the same policy we follow for all our volunteers over age 18 as well). The Striker office can help you with this.
Registration is available online for the referee certification classes. To register for the referee clinic please go to http://www.IllinoisSoccerRefereeCommittee.org. Directions on “How to Register…” are available on the website. The Grade 8 (center/AR) 2 day course is now open for registration. The Grade 12 (AR only) and re-certification course (1 day each) will be open for registration soon. Please check back.
Questions, please contact Robin Cozette our referee assignor at robin_cozette@ilnd.uscourts.gov.
You want to get in shape for the upcoming season or continue were you left off?
Space is limited and you need to see your counselor asap to get registered for this course. This is a no joke PE class.

Parents-
Attached please find the 2011-2012 Student Enrichment Grant Opportunities Bulletin. A hard copy has been placed in your mail bin as well. If you could, please post in your classroom. These Enrichment Opportunities provide grant money for students to experience the wide variety of academic enrichment programs offered by Oak Park and River Forest High School and other outside organizations.
If you know of a student who is in need of financial assistance, these Enrichment Opportunities could provide them with the additional funds they need. Have them stop by the Counselors’ Office (Room 308) and pick up one of the many applications. This Bulletin and all applications are also available via Naviance and the OPRFHS web site:http://www.oprfhs.org/programs_and_services/Cou…
Application deadlines vary, but of special importance are two grants for students who would like to participate in one of the student exchange trips offered by the high school: the Linda Solomon Levine Travel Award and the Tibensky Academic Enrichment Award. Deadline for these two applications is December 1, 2011.
Please note that our newest Enrichment Scholarship, The Kathleen Marian Garrigan Leadership Fund, also has a deadline of January 13th. Two scholarships will be offered this year; however, this scholarship is geared more towards individuals between the ages of 17-25 who plan to participate in a domestic community service project. Projects may include building homes, restoring natural places, working in underdeveloped communities or providing tutoring or mentoring support for needy children and youth. Candidates for this award are graduating seniors and high school and college graduates. Awards will be given upon completion of an extended (2 months or more) domestic service project such as Ameri-Corps as an assistance to young adults during the transition time between the program and school/work.
