Dedication to Kevin Blount

Posted by Emily Easley at Jul 15, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
This year Northridge is proud to announce a special dedication in honor of remembering fallen Sacramento Officer, Kevin Blount. Kevin was also a former Northridge Little League player who played through Tee Ball up to Juniors at Northridge when he was a child. This year, we are proud to announce the Kevin Memorial Field, formerly known as the Junior field. Currently, there is a temporary sign installed on the upper ball field that will be later replaced once the fields have drained from all the rain we have encountered this year. So, next time your out at the ballfields, take a peek at the new sign and dedication on the upper ball field. Kevin Blount was killed in the line of duty on July 13th, 2005 while serving on board a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Helicopter, Star 6. More information can be found here.

Umpiring Requirements

Posted by Emily Easley at Mar 23, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Northridge Little League is working very hard to improve the quality of play and service to our Players, Managers, Coaches, Parents and the Community. In the past, NRLL has had an unfortunate reputation of not having adequate umpire coverage for games. Some umpires have had to officiate two and three games a day due to lack of volunteers. Other times, games have had to be postponed or cancelled because there have been no available umpires.

NRLL is changing this situation. First, NRLL is recruiting as many volunteer umpires as possible. Second, Umpiring clinics and one-on-one training will be made available. Finally, NRLL is instituting the following process:

  1. All Managers in all Divisions will be required to provide a qualified umpire for games in a division other than their own as per a pre-determined schedule. For example: A Major Manager will be required to provide a qualified umpire for either a Minor or Farm game.

  2. It is not required that the Manager be the designated umpire if the Manager can provide another qualified person. For example: A Coach or parent who is qualified as an umpire.

  3. The definition of "Qualified" is an adult who has a good understanding of the Little League Rules, can objectively call a fair game, attended an umpiring training clinic (formal or with one of the NRLL Umpires) and has the approval of the NRLL Chief Umpire. The NRLL Umpires will make themselves available to meet with prospective umpires at set times and on an as-needed basis.

  4. Two umpires will be required for each game. One umpire behind the plate and one in the field. Determination of the plate and field positions should be made by the umpires at game time.

  5. Failure to provide umpires will result in the following penalties:

  • First offence - One-game suspension

  • Second offence - Two-game suspension

  • Third offence - Revocation of Manager duties

1 All Senior and Junior games will be officiated by District 5 Umpires.
