The late, great Dr. Suess:

"Oh, the places you will go!" (Maybe Petaluma will be a place on the Road to Williamsport for one especially talented 11-12 year old team!)

Favorites from Yogi Berra

Baseball is ninety percent mental.  The other half is physical.

Little League baseball is a very good thing because it keeps the parents off the streets.

How can you hit and think at the same time?

Slump? I ain't in no slump. I just ain't hitting.

Congratulations. I knew the record would stand until it was broken.

He hits from both sides of the plate. He's amphibious.

I never blame myself when I'm not hitting.  I just blame the bat, and if it keeps up, I change bats.  After all, if I know it isn'tmy fault that I'm not hitting, how can I get mad at myself?

Jim Bouton, author of Ball Four:
"You spend your entire life gripping a baseball, when it was always the other way  around."

Favorites from Bob Uecker:

"I knew when my career was over. In 1965 my baseball card came out with no picture."

I led the league in "Go get 'em next time."

"In 1962, I was named Minor League Player of the Year.  It was my second season in the bigs."

"I set records that will never be equaled. In fact, I hope 90% of them don't even get printed."

I signed with the Milwaukee Braves for three-thousand dollars. That bothered my dad at the time because he didn't have that kind of dough. But he eventually scraped it up."

"Sporting goods companies pay me not to endorse their products."

"The biggest thrill a ballplayer can have is when your son takes after you. That happened when my Bobby was in his championship Little League game. He really showed me something. Struck out three times. Made an error that lost the game. Parents were throwing things at our car and swearing at us as we drove off. Gosh, I was proud."

"The highlight of my career? In '67 with St. Louis, I walked with the bases loaded to drive in the winning run in an intersquad game in spring training."

"Let's face it. Umpiring is not an easy or happy way to make a living. In the abuse they suffer, and the pay they get for it, you see an imbalance that can only be explained by their need to stay close to a game they can't resist."

"The way to catch a knuckleball is to wait until it stops rolling and then pick it up."

"They said I was such a great prospect that they were sending me to a winter league to sharpen up. When I stepped off the plane, I was in Greenland."

"When I came up to bat with three men on and two outs in the ninth, I looked in the other team's dugout and they were already in street clothes."

"When I looked to the third base coach for a sign, he turned his back on me."

"If a guy hits .300 every year, what does he have to look forward to? I always tried to stay around .190, with three or four RBI. And I tried to get them all in September. That way I always had something to talk about during the winter."

Animated pitcher
The Sonona-Marin Fair (downtown Petaluma) is hosting a Pich-Hit-Run baseball clinic for boys and girls aged 6-13 on Friday, June 23rd from 10am to noon.  Coach Dolf Hes (University of Sports) will teach the fundamentals of fly balls, pitching, catching and hitting.  The $12 fee includes the clinic, admission to the fair, and a hot dog lunch after the clinic.  Sounds like a fun way to extend the season just a bit more and have some good 'ole hometown fun at the fair.  Could be a fun "end of the year" celebration for your Little League Team!  Advance registration is encouraged.  Sign up on-line at http://www.yourfair.org/#baseball.

While you're at it... check out the competitors in the World's Ugliest Dog Contest, another key attraction of our Sonoma-Marin Fair: http://www.yourfair.org/uglydogvote.shtml  I'm goin' with Victoria!

Dugouts on Kenneally Field

Posted by Tanya Sullivan at May 2, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

I hear there's some confusion about which Kenneally dugout is Home and Visitor.  Executive Summary:  It matches the scoreboard on the field.  Yes, this means that it's not the same as Major Field.

Apparently the Major and Kenneally Scoreboards have Home and Visitor in different sides amd the Kenneally dugouts haven't been marked yet.  We'll get it on the punch list, but for now, the scoreboard rule of thumb seems pretty easy to remember :-)

Thanks once again to the crews that brought us new dugouts to label, a new scoreboard to match labels too, and an ever diligent Director of the Night for researching and resolving the problem.

Team Mom’s can pick up their photos in the snack bar from Monday afternoon on.  Junior Senior and make-ups will be May 21 at 10:30am.  Photo schedule will be sent to you Tuesday afternoon.
