News and Announcements

Tryout dates have been set for the Frederick Hustlers Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 13U team.   If you're looking for a great environment for your child to grow as a player we hope that you give us a try. We recognize that the transition to the 90ft diamond can be challenging so why not play for a coaching staff who has tons of experience on it.  While our 12U squad enjoyed a wonderful 2016 summer season (please read our news articles), our goal is to continue to get better.  We are putting together an aggressive tournament schedule where we will compete against the best teams and talent around.

Below are the dates and times for our 13U age group. All tryouts will be held at Yellow Springs Elementary School (8717 Yellow Springs Road, Frederick, MD 21702). Tryouts are free and players can register the day of the tryout. We will have a registration table and the process is very fast and easy; there's no need to worry about pre-registering! Please call Wayne at 301-401-9034 or email frederickhustlers04@gmail.com with questions.

Defense Carries Hustlers into CRAB League Semis

Coming off a weekend in which they played six games in Pittsburgh, the Hustlers dug deep and escaped with a 5-4 win over the Hickory Hornets in quarter-final CRAB League action at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen on Tuesday evening. The storyline was the Hustlers’ trademark defense as they turned two double plays to thwart Hornet rallies. Both teams traded runs in the first before the Hornets erupted for three runs in the third on three-run home run from Cody Kurek to take a 4-1 lead. The Hustlers showed grit and determination by responding with two of their own in the bottom half on RBI singles by Dustin Isanogle and Marshall Mott. In the top of the fourth with a runner on first and one out, Tyler Prather snagged a one-hopper headed for right field and threw to Matt Cunningham at second who turned and fired to a hustling JT Sachar at first for a text book double play. The Hustlers then added two more in the bottom half on walks to Prather and Ryan Bennett and singles by Cunningham and Andrew McElwain. The nail in the coffin, however, proved to be in the top of the fifth when the Hornets loaded the bases with no outs and fell victim to another double play. First, Cunningham fielded a ball at short and showed off his arm getting a force at home. Then, Mott fielded a come-backer and threw to DeLisi at home who then unleashed a fastball to Prather to complete the 1-2-3 back-breaking double play. Luke Schlimm pitched four strong innings with six strikeouts before giving way to Mott in the fifth. Mott entered with the bases loaded and pitched out of the jam.

The Hustlers return to Aberdeen on Wednesday night for a semi-final clash with the Gambrills Athletic Club.

The 12U Frederick Hustlers traveled up the PA Turnpike to the Steel City for the 2016 New Era Cap Classic and came away with a 4-2 record and a Top Eight finish in the 22 team tournament. The Hustlers got out of the gate fast with a 35-0 thrashing of the Burning River Baseball Club (OH) where they hit seven home runs. The Boys from Frederick followed that with a 7-6 win over a solid Pittsburgh Slider ball club (PA) before losing 12-11 to the Westmoreland Wolverines (PA). In that game, the Hustlers battled back from a 12-5 deficit in the bottom of the sixth and had the tying and winning runs on second and third when the game ended. The Hustlers played their best baseball of the tournament on Saturday when they beat a strong Detroit Bees (MI) squad 10-2 to end pool play and started seeded play with an impressive 13-3 win over the talented NY Muckdogs. As happens so many times in tournament play, the Hustlers were pitted once again against the Detroit Bees with a trip to the semifinal game on the line. The Bees were better this time around as they beat the Hustlers 11-3. The Detroit Bees ended up playing in the Championship game.

The Hustlers got strong pitching performances from Brandon Bradshaw, Nick DeLisi, Marshall Mott, Tyler Prather, Matt Cunningham and Andrew McElwain throughout the tournament. Offensively, the Hustlers found their groove and pounded 15 home runs – five each by Mott and Cunningham, two by DeLisi, and one a piece for Bradshaw, McElwain and Dustin Isanogle. The scrappy Isanogle who loves playing the game led the Hustlers in hitting with a .692 average (9-13), followed by Bradshaw (.688, 11-16), Mott (.647, 11-17), Cunningham (.529, 9-17), McElwain (.467, 7-15) and DeLisi (.438, 7-16).

You can catch the Hustlers back in action on Jul 8-10 when they travel to Rehoboth Beach , DE to participate in the 13U Division of the Clash of the Titans.
