Please Read: Important MAST Updates

Posted by Catherine Geiser on Dec 21 2009 at 10:46AM PST

Mast Club Members,

In an effort to keep everyone informed during this transitional period, we’d like to communicate the status of a few key items before everyone is immersed in the holidays.

1. We have posted a Head Coach classified listing on the USA Swimming website, in addition to reaching out to our contacts. Steve Gerwe will be the point person for the job search. He will screen resumes and identify potential candidates. We already have 3-4 interested people in the position. If anyone knows an outstanding candidate, please have them send their resume to Steve.

2. All current coaches will remain with their existing schedule of duties.

3. Roman DeNu, a former MHS swimmer standout and Water Polo coach, will begin assisting Corey with the Talon group. He will remain with the team throughout the rest of the winter season.

4. The next scheduled Board of Trustees meeting will be open to all parents of MAST swimmers. It will be held on Tuesday, January 12, at 7PM in the high school. This forum will be an optimal time to discuss any concerns about the club, such as the Head Coach search. More details will be sent closer to the date.

5. The January calendar and updated meet schedule will be posted on the website soon. Please sign up for the January meets this week.

6. Do not forget to signup for spring and summer swimming before December 31 to receive the discount.

We realize that losing Coach Craig has been a disappointment for the team. We will miss him very much; however, great things can come from change. We have an amazing group of parents and swimmers with wonderful ideas and talents. This is an excellent opportunity for us to work together to make positive changes to form an even stronger team. In the meantime, our coaching staff remains outstanding; and your swimmers will continue to have fun, improve and be challenged this winter.

We have a lot of work to accomplish in the next few months: finding a new head coach, initiating a large swimmer recruitment program and, of course, performing daily club operations. We would appreciate your time and insight with each of these initiatives. We want the entire team to be involved in creating great changes for MAST.

Have a wonderful holiday season.
The Mast Board of Trustees
