The U-12 Strikers were playing at home on Thursday evening against the visiting NorWest Menace. Chatham was looking for a win to keep them neck in neck with 2 other teams fighting for 1st place.
Chatham was determined to have a fast start as they fell behind early in both their last 2 contests. A fast start indeed, as only minutes into the game Kristen Calabrese harassed the NorWest defence into a turnover, beat 2 defenders, and sent a beautiful cross into the 18 yd. box. Emily McFeat was charging into the box and met the cross perfectly to beat the Menace goalie for a 1 – 0 lead. Chatham continued to pressure NorWest and trap them in their own end, and Allyson Huckle narrowly missed making it 2 – 0 for Chatham. With the half winding down, McFeat took a pass at the centre of the field and then sprinted up the sideline, after passing the last NorWest defender, McFeat cut in towards the Menace goal and fired home a high hard shot for her 2nd of the day and a 2 – 0 lead. Chatham goalie Kaylee Boulley made a great save on a shot from inside the box and then she managed to smother the rebound before a NorWest player could get there.
Chatham used the 2nd half to shuffle their lineup and move some players around , and they still generated some good offensive chances as Logan Kucera nailed the post and about 5 rebound attempts by others could not find the back of the net. Chatham was happy late in the game to just protect the lead and earn Boulley her 2nd shutout of the season.

The U-12 Chatham Strikers opened their 2011 Season at home on Tuesday night against the Dorchester Dynamite. Chatham was looking to exact revenge against the team that knocked them out of the Challenge cup in penalty shots at the end of last season.
Chatham was out to send a message early and it didn’t take long for them to get their point across. Less than a minute into the game the Strikers stormed down the pitch and Logan Kucera crossed a beautiful ball into the box. Jana Kucera was on the receiving end of the pass and managed to deflect it past the Dorchester goalie and then follow the deflection and ball into the back of the net for a 1 – 0 Chatham lead. Chatham would enjoy a few good scoring chances in the half as Allyson Huckle rang a 25 yard shot off the crossbar. Chatham looked to build on their 1 – 0 lead in the 2nd half and again enjoyed numerous good scoring chances. Finally at the 65th minute of the game the Wonder twins struck again as Logan Kucera crossed another ball into the crease and Jana Kucera ran onto the feed and buried her 2nd goal of the game. Chatham’s defence was stellar throughout the game and limited Dorchester to 1 or 2 scoring opportunities and helped Kaylee Boulley earn her 1st shut-out of the season. Welcome back all, and a special welcome back to Paulina Maslak after a one year hiatus from the travel program. She will be a valuable asset and addition to our team.
The rest of the players will hopefully continue to improve and develop which will enable this group to be competetive and successful for years to come.
I will be scheduling a parent meeting shortly, and we already have a couple of exhibition games on the slated. There is a possibility of 2 more exhibition games being added before the season starts, so the next couple of weeks will be busy as we ramp up for the start of the 2011 season.
