District 57 Mourns Loss of One of Its Own  - Joshua "Chachi" Corral

Lance Cpl. Joshua Corral, a Marine and Danville Little League graduate serving his first tour of duty overseas, was killed in Afghanistan Nov. 18 while in combat in Helmand province.

“Joshua played in the Danville Little League program from Tee Ball through Big League, and his family has been very active in the league,” Dave Wetmore, California’s Little League District 57 Administrator in that area, said. “He was a person who everyone liked who was willing to put his life on the line so all of us could enjoy the freedom we have. For someone his age, I think that speaks volumes to the kind of person he was.”

The 2010 graduate of San Ramon Valley High School grew up in Danville, Calif., and was known by most in the town as Chachi. He enlisted in the Marines shortly after graduating. Joshua, the second oldest of four brothers, was an exemplary soldier graduating first in his Marine Corps class.

Lance Cpl. Corral, who was 19 years old, was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Mr. Corral’s father, Arnie, has been an active member of the Danville Little League for many years, currently serving on the Board of Directors.

There are two events planned to honor Joshua Corral.

Saturday, November 26th, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. on the San Ramon Valley High School Soccer/Football Field . His community of family and friends are invited to attend this evening to remember the young soldier and friend that they loved. Please bring blankets to sit on. Anyone who is interested is welcome to bring baked goods on this evening and leave them on the tables that will be outside of the snack shack for all of the guests to enjoy afterwards.

Wednesday, Nov. 30th, 2011 there will be a Memorial Service to honor Josh at 12:30 p.m. at East Bay Fellowship Church. 2615 Camino Tassajara Danville, CA 94506. All are welcome to attend. Reception to follow.

Little League has released guidelines on compensating others for services (e.g. Umpires, Snack Bar personnel, etc), including what determines whether a person is a contractor or an employee, and the tax and insurance consequences.
