Bulldogs Come Up Short in a Matchup Against Watertown

Posted by John Halsey on Jul 22 2017 at 05:00PM PDT

The Reading Bulldogs took on the first-place Watertown Reds on Sunday night at Endicott College and took the loss by a score of 5-2. The Reds struck first in the top of the second inning on a two RBI triple from Logan Gillis. The Bulldogs came right back getting two runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Johnny Hayes scored on an RBI single by Kevin Marciano and Chris Seidl scored on a ground out from Zac Talis to even the score at two.

The Bulldogs offense was silenced for the rest of the night, as the Red’s starter, Nate Beck pitched a complete game, striking out five. The Bulldog’s starter, Jack Theriault gave the team a solid start, pitching five innings and allowing three earned runs. Jack Burke pitched in relief for the Bulldogs and got the team out of a key inning to limit the damage. Zak Levine pitched two strong innings out of the bullpen for Reading, not allowing any baserunners.

The Bulldogs pitching, especially the bullpen shined in this game and their bats just could not get going thanks to a great pitching performance by the Watertown starter.

The Bulldogs will look to get back on track and start the home stretch of the regular season Monday night against Arlington at Endicott College.
