Bulldogs Drop One to Melrose Americans

Posted by John Halsey on Jul 16 2017 at 05:00PM PDT

At Morelli Field in Melrose on Monday night, the Reading Bulldogs faced off against the Melrose Americans. The Bulldogs were defeated by the Americans by a score of 7-1.

Through 3 innings, the score was knotted up at 0-0 until the Americans broke through in the 4th inning with back to back doubles with runners on base. Melrose was able to add one more run in the 5th to make the lead 4-0 headed into the 6th.

Leading off the 6th inning, Kevin Marciano lead off with a walk and then Chris Bosco singled through the left side to put runners on first and second with 2 outs for Steve Busby. Busby came through with his second hit of the night to bring home Marciano from second base to make the score 4-1. However, this was all the Bulldogs could manage to score and eventually fell to Melrose 7-1 after they tacked on another 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th.

The Melrose pitchers found success in keeping the ball down in the zone, producing a lot of groundballs and limiting the Bulldogs to only 4 hits. On the mound for Reading, starting pitcher Colby Morris went 5 innings and Zak Levine came in for relief to pitch the bottom half of the 6th.

Reading will be playing the Somerville Royals at Lexington High School on Wednesday night.
