JV Falls to Alexander 1-6

Posted by Andy Norton at Feb 22, 2010 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
In conditions that resembled Vancouver more than Douglasville, the Tigers came up short in the season opener Tuesday night. "We out pitched them and out hit them, but the errors bit us," said Coach McAfee. The Tigers got four hits but only managed to push one runner across the dish at Cougar Field, and held the AHS nine to only one hit.

The Tigers left one in the first before Connor Moroney took the hill for the DC nine and allowed no earned runs through four innings. Josh Atwood relived Conner in the fifth inning after a series of season opener miscues in the fourth left the team down 0-6.

The bats came alive in the fifth as Treyvin Riggins smashed a ball into right center for a double, setting the table for Mariah Campbell who reached the bag after being hit by a pitch. Drew Norton then pushed Treyvin across the dish to score the Tigers only run of the game.

“We had four hits to their one,” said McAfee. “We had two or three mental mistakes, and missed a double play.”

While it was a tough way to lose the first game, the Tigers will go to work with the benefit of dry weather and permission to once again practice at Hunter Park. The JV travel Saturday to Landmark Christian to take on the War Eagles at 1 P.M.

<!-- Coach Info -->Head Coach - Eric McAfee

Posted by Andy Norton at Sep 22, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

In May 2010, Douglas County High School Principal Constance Craft and Athletic Director Charles Harper announced the promotion of assistant coach Eric McAfee to the position of head baseball coach. McAfee recently completed his first year with the Tigers in 2009 as the program’s head junior varsity coach and worked with the varsity program as an assistant.

“I am very excited about this upcoming season, we are fortunate to return 10 starters from last season, which is tremendous. The new facilities that we have are some of the top in the state, and we are thrilled that Douglas County High Schools baseball program finally has somewhere to call home. I have surrounded myself with some of the finest coaches out there, and they are a tremendous asset to the players, as well as myself. The sky is the limit for the DC Baseball program in 2011, so look for us to do some big things.”

McAfee is a native of Jefferson City, TN, where he was a three-year letter winner in baseball for Jefferson County High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Health and Physical Education at Emory and Henry College in Emory, VA and was a four-year letter winning player for the school’s baseball team. During his collegiate career, Eric received the Academic All-Conference award for four years, was voted Most Improved Player his junior year, and elected Team Captain during his senior season.

After graduation, McAfee served as a teacher and the head junior varsity and varsity assistant baseball coach at Cumberland County High School in Crossville, TN. He joined the Douglas County staff in 2009 as a Health and Personal Fitness and Team Sports teacher. Coach McAfee comes from a coaching family where his grandfather, Fred Sorrells, is a member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame after coaching and teaching 40 years at the high school and collegiate levels.
