Rained Out

Posted by Paul Dixon Jr. at Apr 30, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Slammers matchup against the Astros was rained out Thursday.  The Slammers hope to get back on the field this coming Sunday scheduled to play the Rangers at Rotary Park at 1p.m.  Justin Dunlap will be getting his first start for the Slammers; the hard throwing right hander has a challenge in front of him though, facing the undefeated Rangers.  The Rangers are coming off some big wins defeating the Astros 21-2 and Indians 12-6.(Slammers try to make it to the field Sunday by 11 a.m. if all possible to get some batting practice in and take a good round of IF)  Hopefully the rain will hold off this weekend so the Slammers can get the game in, but it doesn’t look to promising with the forecast calling for showers all day Saturday and Sunday. So let’s hope for the best and if Sundays game does get canceled we will see everyone after the week off due to Mothers Day when the Slammers face the Shockers for their second meeting on May 17 at AIA 7:30 p.m.

Slammers Devastating Loss

Posted by Paul Dixon Jr. at Apr 26, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Slammers fall short in a devastating loss to the Shockers 12-13.  Even with putting up 17 hits and 12 runs on the board the Slammers could not pull off the victory against the Shockers.  With some key players (Anderson, Jaynes, and All Star Ashworth) missing the game due to injury or prior engagements the Slammer still should of pulled off the victory only giving up 9 earned runs.  The Slammers are hitting over .400 as a team but if they don't pull together defensively it's going to be a long season.  Through 2 games the Slammers have had 7 errors and many critical mental mistakes which have really hurt them.  So let's hope the Slammers can bounce back and have a good week playing this Thursday against the Astros and Sunday against the Rangers.

Saturdays Game Still On At 12

Posted by Paul Dixon Jr. at Apr 23, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Slammers thanks for trying to help out and being flexible changing Saturdays game to 9 a.m. but the game is back to 12.  It's good karma trying to help another team because one day we might need to switch.  Ricky will be getting to AIA about 10:45 and get the same dugout we had last week.  Anyone who wants to take some swings in the cage show up early too.  Deane will be starting on the mound for us so let's go out, play hard and back him up and get a win.

Opening Day Continued

Posted by Paul Dixon Jr. at Apr 20, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The league is saying we are continuing the opening days game at a later date.  Even though the league rules clearly state that a game canceled at 5innings+ is considered an official game.  Because the game was called by the AIA's field crew and not the umpires the last 4 innings they will be continued later in the year when the two teams meet up again.

Slammers First Franchise Win

Posted by Paul Dixon Jr. at Apr 18, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Dayton Slammers got their first franchise win today as they faced the Dragons. After a five inning game, due to a rain cancelation, the Slammers ended up on top 11-9.  Kevin Ashworth claimed the victory pitching all five innings, giving up only three Earned Runs.  The Slammers looked good in their season opener putting up 13 hits and 11 runs.  It was an all around high class performance from the whole team. Hopefully this game is something the up and coming Slammers can build on and have a great 2009 season.
