2012 Summer Tenafly Travel Tryouts

1.                 Explanation of the Tenafly Summer Travel Program:

Tenafly Lions Little League invites all player’s under the age of 14 from the town of Tenafly or Alpine to try out for one of our travel teams for the 2012 Summer Travel Baseball Season.

Tenafly Travel Baseball provides a great opportunity for our kids who are seeking a more competitive baseball experience while at the same time represent our Tenafly community with class and pride. All information on Tenafly’s Travel Program can be found on our website at www.tenaflylittleleague.com.  I encourage all to read so you completely understand our program and your expectations are set.

Travel baseball consists of very competitive teams and unfortunately not all of our young and promising players who try out can be asked to participate on a team.  Travel is not REC and unfortunately not everyone will be chosen for a team.  As parents, please make sure your child is aware that there is a possibility that he/she will be cut and with that will come disappointment.  We would hope and encourage that all the kids continue to play recreation baseball with their friends and continue to work to improve their skills and consider coming back the following season and trying out again.

Travel Baseball requires a significant commitment on both the player and his/her family.  Players are expected to be at all of the practices and games throughout the season.  For kids playing multiple sports during the season, we ask that baseball takes priority.  Please note that there is an additional cost associated with Travel Baseball as team fees are not included in the general recreation registration fees.

This fee will cover the cost of the league entry fee, umpires and uniforms etc…

All of our coaches are volunteers and not professional coaches.  Our goal is to continue to develop players, teach baseball skills and most importantly let the kids play the game of baseball and have fun.  The ultimate goal is make sure that each player is better at the end of the season than they were at the beginning providing them the opportunity to get to that next level.

2.                 Transparency:

The TLL Board of Directors and coaches/volunteers take these tryouts very seriously and will do everything in their power to make it is fair as possible for everyone involved.  We understand that these are young children and everyone develops differently and will give them every opportunity by striving to make it an even playing field for all candidates. Unfortunately, we will be making some very difficult decisions and we ask that you understand and manage your and your child’s expectations accordingly.

·         The evaluation will consist of fielding ground balls, pop-flies and hitting.

·         Teams/rosters will be chosen based on the following criteria:

*    Evaluations of all participants against their peers

*    Previous Travel Baseball experience, if applicable

*    Previous Recreation Baseball experience, if applicable

·         Coaches will not be chosen until the teams/rosters are chosen.

·         Board members who have kids trying out will not be rating/evaluating kids at that level.

3.                 Explanation of the Tenafly Travel Eligibility Requirements:

A player is eligible to participate in a particular age level based on the player's age on May 1, 2012.  In order to determine the league age of any participant, please click on the following link:  http://www.eteamz.com/TenaflyLionsLittleLeague/news/index.cfm?cat=584688.

If a player chooses to tryout for a team in an age group older than what he/she is eligible, he/she is more than welcome to do so.  The player is also encouraged to tryout for his/her age appropriate team as well to ensure his/her chances on making either team.  A player who tries out for an older age team and does not make it will not automatically be placed on his/her age appropriate team unless he/she tries out for that team and makes it.  Players may be asked to participate on specific teams pending certain and special instances and approval by all parties.  In order to help determine what age group your child should be playing, please utilize the little league age calculator located on our website.

4.                 Summer Travel Season and League(s):

We hope to be able to field teams in each of the following age groups: 8U Coach Pitch, 8U Kid Pitch, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U.  This will be based on the amount of interest at each age level.  Each team will consist of approximately 12 – 13 players allowing playing time for every kid on the roster.  Depending on certain age groups, coaches philosophy etc… players may be asked to play 1-2-3 positions and perhaps more in certain circumstances and playing time amongst players at all levels will vary and is up to each specific coach/team.  Again, please outline the expectations to all players that the Tenafly Travel Program is not REC and unfortunately not everyone may receive the same playing time.  The ultimate goal is to further the skill development of each player while at the same time field a competitive team.

The Summer Travel season will start Saturday June 16th for the 13U and 14U teams and Monday/Tuesday June 18th/19th for the 8U – 12U teams.  The season will consist of a 10 game schedule and continue through Saturday July 21st.  Playoffs will take place from July 23rd – August 1st.  Championship games will take place on August 3rd & 4th.  There will be two games scheduled the week of July 4th.

Tenafly Travel teams will be participating in the North East Bergen All Stars Spring League (NEBAS) www.eteamz.com/nebas.

All information as it pertains to Tenafly Travel Baseball including information on the leagues can be found on our website www.tenaflylittleleague.com/2012SummerTravel and at the following link: http://www.eteamz.com/TenaflyLionsLittleLeague/news/index.cfm?cat=584684

The fees for 2012 Spring Travel will be as follows:

  8U (coach pitch)                    $40

  8U (kid pitch)                        $75

  9U & 10U                               $75
