News and Announcements

Petaluma’s very own Jonny Gomes dreamed of playing baseball on TV since he was 5 years old. He played Little League at Petaluma American and Petaluma Valley in the early 1990’s.  He was a star player at Casa Grande High School and is now he is a Tampa Bay Devil Ray that batted .282 with21 home runs, 54 RBIs and 9 stolen bases in his Rookie 2005 Season.

Jonny’s storybook season earned second and third place finishes in all the major American League Rookie of the Year ballots!  He has also regularly volunteered his time at Casa Grande’s annual “Camp for a Cure” fundraiser benefiting cancer and Lupus research. Jonny is sponsoring a team in each of Petaluma's three Little Leagues this spring.

Petaluma and Petaluma American, National, and Valley Little Leagues will honor Jonny’s accomplishments at Jonny Gomes Day on Saturday, February 11th at Petaluma American’s Major Field (299 Maria Drive) from noon to 3pm.  ADMISSION IS FREE to this noon to 3 event! The afternoon will feature activities for family members of all ages, great ballpark food, and a memorable ceremony highlighting Jonny’s amazing season as Mayor David Glass presents Jonny with an official City Proclamation.  Jonny will have a special chat with all the kids in Center Field, sign autographs and has donated signed baseball memorabilia that will be auctioned to benefit the three Little League Organizations. Petaluma's other professional baseball stars will be there. Canine Companions for Independence, the Polly Klaas Foundation, the Petaluma Police Department, and the Petaluma Fire Department will all host inforamation booths at this community minded event.  Vernon Glenn, Weekend Sports Anchor at KRON4 TV in San Francisco will be our M.C.  Look for highlights of the event on the news that night!  This is a rare opportunity for an entire community to honor a hometown sports hero.  You won’t want to miss it!

This is a "rain or shine" event. In the event of rain, the event will be held at the Casa Grande High School gym.

Saturday evening, Casa Grande High School Baseball invites you to continue the celebration at An Evening With Jonny Gomes from 6-10 pm at the Petaluma Veterans' Memorial Building.  This fundraising banquet will pay tribute to Jonny and proceeds will benefit the Casa baseball program. It includes dinner with beer and winea host of guest speakers paying tribute to Jonny, and a silent auction.  Jonny's high school jersey will be retired that evening.  Casa Grande Baseball invites you to purchase a ticket in advance and help honor Jonny's accomplishments.   This event is geared to high school aged fans and adults.  Speakers include:

ON LINE REGISTRATION...
