“Little League baseball is a very good thing because it keeps the parents off the streets.”

                                                                                        - Yogi Berra (May 12, 1925)

History of Jefferson County Little League (JCLL)

In 1953, the initial charter for a local league was received from Little League, Inc., and the league name was Potomac Little League.  At that time, each town had their own team and played on a local field.  In August 1981, Potomac Little League and the Jefferson County Board of Education began discussions for a Little League Complex.  In 1982, a commitment was made by the County Commission to allow five fields to be built behind Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, and the league name was changed to Jefferson County Little League (JCLL).  Work began in September 1983, and the complex was dedicated on April 28, 1984. Today, our league serves over 400 children with 30+ baseball and softball teams comprised of T-Ball, Minor League, Major League, Intermediate League, and Junior League.

Our Mission

The mission of Jefferson County Little League is to promote, develop, supervise, and voluntarily assist in all lawful ways, the interest of those who will participate in Little League Baseball and Softball.  Through proper guidance and exemplary leadership, the Little League program assists youth in developing the qualities of citizenship, discipline, teamwork and physical well-being.   By espousing the virtues of character, courage and loyalty, the Little League Baseball and Softball program is designed to develop superior citizens rather than superior athletes.

BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL REGISTRATION FOR THE 2012 SPRING SEASON - LATE REGISTRATION AT TRYOUTS TODAY, SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 26

There is ONE final opportunity to register for Tee Ball, Baseball and Softball for the 2012 Spring Season. Come to the Ranson Civic Center to the JCLL Tryouts TODAY, February 26.   Information on Tryouts is below.  LATE REGISTRATION FEES ARE $130 FOR THE FIRST CHILD (this includes an $80 registration fee + $50 fundraiser.  The fundraiser is five $10 JCLL discount cards which you can sell and recoup the $50 fundraiser costs), AND $120 FOR EACH ADDITIONAL CHILD (2ND THROUGH 5TH CHILD - $70 registration fee + the $50 fundraiser).  Information and needed forms can be found at the bottom of this page.

LEAGUE TRYOUTS - CONTINUE TODAY

Tryouts for Baseball and Softball will be held at the Ranson Civic Center (431 W. 2nd Avenue, Ranson) TODAY, Sunday, February 26.  BASEBALL and SOFTBALL - Ages 7 to 14:  Today will be an "open" tryout.  All players are asked to arrive at 3:45 PM for sign-in/group assignments.   Once groups are assigned, we will do the tryouts. Please note: We will do the tryouts as quickly as we can.

Background: It is MANDATORY for certain players to try out.   Players who must try out are:

- New players ages 7 and up that will play in the AA Division and above.

- Returning players ages 7 and up who played below the major league level last spring.

All players who will play tee ball or Single A (lowest division in the minors), as well as those returning players from last spring already on a major or junior league team DO NOT need to tryout.  Coaches will be in contact with these players in the next few weeks, if they are not already.

If there are any questions on whether your child needs to tryout, please email jcllplayeragent@yahoo.com.

GUIDELINES/WHAT TO BRING:

- Remember to bring a drink for your child.

- Wear Tennis Shoes (NO Cleats) and light pants/shorts (NO JEANS…they are hard for the kids to maneuver in them).

- Bring a Glove. Players may also bring their own helmet and bat, but JCLL will have bats and helmets available for use.

- JCLL is NOT responsible for lost or stolen items, or for items left at the tryout.

Finally, if you did not pay for the fundraiser (the JCLL Discount Cards) when registering on February 4, 11, 18 or 22, if your child(ren) is/are trying out, please pay the $50 per child at tryouts today.

If you registered your child at the first registration (February 4th), please see Karla Hanes, JCLL Director of Fundraising, at tryouts to pick up your fundraiser discount cards. Payment will be due either at tryouts, or to your child(ren)'s manager(s) at the first team practice.
