Day Two at the Evangel Duals

Posted by Kris Kienzle at Jan 1, 2008 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Day Two at the Evangel Duals

Had another successful day individually but had a loss due to forfeits. Ben, Landon, and Lindsey ended the weekend 9-0. Marshall ended up 8-1 with his only loss coming to Scott Hooper of Airline who was voted OW for the upper weight classes. Jared Dietrich was 7-2 while Ryan, Cameron, and Daniel were 6-3. Brock, Tres', Miles, and Chase had some success too with all of them winning at least 4 matches a piece. All of them will benefit from the experience and I am proud of them.

We are heading into the home stretch of the season. Every match takes on more and more meaning. Seeding looms ahead for both City and State. The wrestlers will have to step up their game to meet the level of competition. We will be working hard as coaches to get the most out of them. Diets, rest and time management are critical factors facing us in the next couple of weeks. These athletes cannot let their grades falter as we approach the end of the season. Happy new year to all of you and your families. Coach Bull

Day One at the Evangel Duals

Posted by Kris Kienzle at Dec 28, 2007 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Day One at the Evangel Duals

Well unfortunately this seems to be a recurring theme for this team. We are short handed. We are missing 4 starting wrestlers and this is costing us dearly. We start each dual meet down 24 points. That means that we have to fight and claw our way back into each dual and hope for the best. With the absence of Bellefontaine, Podnar, Braud and Campbell we are at a great disadvantage. We should be 5-0 in our pool, but because of the forfeits we have to give up we are 3-2. We lost our first dual against Holy Cross 42-41. We followed that up with a loss to Airline 46-40. We started to gain some momentum and beat Weatherford Texas 39-36 and Haughton 60-18. We then added one more victory against the Renegade team made up of extra wrestlers from multiple teams. Our wrestlers had a fantastic time and the parents love the format. Wrestling 5 dual meets afforded the opportunity for each wrestler to have 5 matches. We had several wrestlers go 5-0 including Ben Willeford, Landon Carr, Daniel Sommers and Lindsey Leavoy. Marshall Leavoy, Jared Dietrich, and Cameron Gibson went 4-1. Brock Portier and  Ryan Ballard ended the day with a mark of 3-2 with Tres' Gravois and Chase Dunlap each notching 2 victories a piece.

Tomorrow we will be seeded and wrestle in a tournament style format withe the top 8 teams being placed in a championship bracket the next 8 will be placed in a consolation bracket and the final 8 being placed in a second consolation bracket. Most of the wrestlers will wrestle between 7-9 matches. Not bad in 2 days. I was very pleased with the wrestlers that made the trip. They have gained valuable experience against some fantastic competition. This experience will help these wrestlers meet their goals and will help this team during the state tournament.

Thanks to the parents for their support with such short notice. I think the ones that are here will let you know that this trip was worth their while and that is was a great experience for the kids.  Geaux Warriors!!!!!!!! Coach Bull

Off to the Evangel Duals

Posted by Kris Kienzle at Dec 27, 2007 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Off to the Evangel Duals

Well here we go. Sorry that I have not kept up with regular updates on here about tournament finishes, but with the holidays and such I have been extremely busy. We did have our best tournament finish last week with a 2nd place finish at Tara. We were missing wrestlers in the 103, 160, and 215 pound weight classes as well as our starting 171 pounder. With three voids and another starter out we still had an opportunity to win the tournament. It came down to Lindsey in the heavyweight match. Had Lindsey won that match we would have won the tournament by 0.5 points. Now you can see how important every point is. If anyone saw Lindsey's match you know how close we were to taking it all.

The Warriors will make a trip to Evangel in the morning that will challenge every member of this team. We got a last second invite to this tournament because 2 other teams pulled out at the last minute. We will face our toughest competition of the year with teams from Oklahoma, Texas and Wisconsin coming to town. I am cautiously optimistic as overall we are still a very young team. This is an opportunity that I could not pass up and appreciate all of the Warriors that are going. All of you will be better for the experience. Wish us luck and I will try to get an update on Friday night after we return to the hotel.
