There Are 51 Events in a Standard Dual Meet.
44 Individual events and 7 Relays.

Individual Medley (25 Yards/Meters Each Stroke)
Event 1 - Age 12 & Under Girls
Event 2 - Age 12 & Under Boys
Event 3 - Age 13-18 Girls
Event 4 - Age 13-18 Boys

Freestyle
Event 5 - Age 8 & Under Girls (25 Yards/Meters)
Event 6 - Age 8 & Under Boys
Event 7 - Age 9/10 Girls (25 Yards/Meters)
Event 8 - Age 9/10 Boys
Event 9 - Age 11/12 Girls (50 Yards/Meters)
Event 10 - Age 11/12 Boys
Event 11 - Age 13/14 Girls (50 Yards/Meters)
Event 12 - Age 13/14 Boys
Event 13 - Age 15-18 Girls (50 Yards/Meters)
Event 14 - Age 15-18 Boys

Backstroke
Events 15-24 - By same age, gender and distance as in freestyle

Breaststroke
Events 25-34 - By same age, gender and distance as in freestyle

Butterfly
Events 35-44 - By same age, gender and distance as in freestyle

Medley Relays
Event 45 - 12 & Under Medley Girls (4 swimmers, 25 Yards/Meters each stroke)
Event 46 - 12 & Under Medley Boys (4 swimmers, 25 Yards/Meters each stroke)
Event 47 - 13 & Over Co-ed Medley (4 swimmers, 50 Yards/Meters each stroke)

Freestyle Relays
Event 48 - 8 & Under Co-ed Freestyle (4 swimmers, 25 Yards/Meters each)
Event 49 - 12 & Under Girls Freestyle (4 swimmers, 25 Yards/Meters each)
Event 50 - 12 & Under Boys Freestyle (4 swimmers, 25 Yards/Meters each)
Event 51 - 13 & Over Co-ed Freestyle (4 swimmers, 50 Yards/Meters each)

Team scores are kept for dual meets. The score will be announced at the conclusion of the meet.

Individual Events
Individual events are scored on a 5-3-1 point basis. That is, for each event

First Place - 5 Points
Second Place - 3 Points
Third Place - 1 Point

A swimmer must legally complete an event for points to be awarded. In the event that fewer than 3 swimmers complete an event, only the points earned will be awarded (e.g, if only two swimmers complete the event, only 1st and 2nd place points will be awarded).

No Sweep Rule
There is a rule in place within the North Jersey Summer Swim League that prevents a team from "sweeping" the points for an event. In the event that the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in an event are all from the same team, and a swimmer from the opposing team finishes in 4th place, 3rd place is deemed to have been achieved by the opposing team. If no swimmer from the opposing team completes the event, 3rd place points are not awarded.

Relay Events
7 points are awarded to the winning team in a relay event. No other points are awarded.

Bonus Heats
Bonus Heats are sometimes provided to allow additional swimmers to have the opportunity to swim in a meet situation. When bonus heats are used they are not counted in the meet scoring.

Team and individual pictures will be taken this Thursday prior to the home meet with South Orange. With 100+ kids on the team this is always a challenge. Please arrive early (4:00) and be patient. Look for additional guidance at practice from Joe and Kelly.
