Things to Remember for Vegas

Posted by Jon Morinishi at Aug 9, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
As you are packing for Las Vegas tonight please be sure to remember your immunization records for the boys and any siblings making the trip. This will be if we decide to have them stay in the play area at the Hotel. Also please remember to bring your portable chairs as the gym at UNLV will not have any to sit on. Everyone, have a safe drive and see you tomorrow night. Mark

Posted by Jon Morinishi at Aug 7, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Don't forget we have practice tomorrow 8/9/06 at Mariners from 6:30-8:30 We will be handing out our Las Vegas Dodgers Tournament packet with cell phone lists, itinerary, maps, etc. as well as our VFW Tournament ad packet during practice tomorrow. As a reminder when driving to Las Vegas on I15 you must exit on # 27 marked Lake Mead / Henderson. When exiting turn right and then left on to Las Vegas Blvd. Proceed about three miles and South Coast Hotel will be on your left side. If you miss exit #27 you will have to drive an additional six miles as you will have to pass the Hotel and double back. You should park in the front of the Hotel as the registration desk is inside the front. After checking in you can either self park in the parking garage located on the right side of the Hotel or Valet park in the front. The Hotel tower is located at the rear of the casino building. See you all tomorrow night, Mark

Jets Tournament Summary

Posted by Jon Morinishi at Aug 4, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
As a week has passed it makes it more easier to write our recap of the Jets Tournament. Our boys should still be very proud of their outcome as they took another second place trophy home with a 2-1 record this past weekend. Our first game with the Mustangs Ninja Storm needed some great defense against their #32 Low, he had scored 15 out of their 17 points against us in the FOR Tournament earlier this year. We assigned four players to guard him all game to be sure that he didn't beat us again. The result was he only had 3 points and we came out with a 24-17 victory. Our second game was against the Pasadena Gameboys, we hadn't faced this team yet but we knew it was going to be a tough game as this team has always placed either first or second in the CYC league. Their best player was #23 Shinmoto who averages 16 points per game in CYC. We again used our defense by committee and held him to only 8 points for the game. This resulted in a 25-20 victory and a spot into the championship game on Sunday with the Warriors. The Championship Game was a tough battle as our boys knew they had to come to play. Our goal was to run, run, run as we felt we were the best conditioned team in the tournament. We knew if we hung close in the first half then we had a chance, as our team has shown in past tournaments as a second half team. The score at halftime was 13-16 so we were right where we wanted to be. The second half proved to be our half as they started to get tired and we continued to run, we outscored them in the second half but couldn't close the door. (See Game Summary in Jet Tournament under Scores) The result was a tough 32-34 overtime loss in what was the best game our team has played this year. We had 7 players score in this game which is getting closer to our goal of winning as a "team" concept. We don't want any team thinking we have only one or two players who can beat them. We want them to worry about all 10 players scoring at any moment of the game. On a great note, we shot 61.3% from the free throw line. Right on target for Vegas. Again, great tournament to everyone. We are now 10-2 with two 1st place and two 2nd place trophies this year. See you on Sunday, Mark
